Many of those in intellectual music circles will argue that as far as popular music goes we live in one of the worst ages. Lyrically and musically there seem to be little progress, with most songs being about love (fine in it's own way, be it pretty or sad, but nothing new) and songs that following a simple I, IV, V chord progression. Those artists that are doing new things are more underground, making them difficult to find. What artists/composers do you think are doing some really interesting things right now?

Hmmm..for me I go with of electronic "IDM", ambient, post rock/shoegaze, early 20th century composer's & baroque. There's a lot of really good music that's never mentioned by prominent mainstream media outlets, this music can be challenging and usually isn't very accessible, but it's the most fullfilling stuff I've come across.

Listen to Buckethead. He will blow you away. Get over his costume and listen to his music. Then get some Cinematic Orchestra and then some RJD2. There's a lot out there, you just have to keep your ears open.

mmmmm... i love baroque. It's without a doubt my favorite period of the pre-modern eras. Aistobasbistoc, what is IDM? Also, could you recomend any specific composers or artists?

fourboltmain, i dunno. bucket man is interesting was far as technique goes, he's stellar. I haven't really heard him do something really musically different though. I don't really like cinematic orchestra, but I don't dislike them either. And what is RJD2? i've never heard of that before, what do you recomend i listen to by RJD2?

and I forgot to post this last time, if you haven't heard it before I really recomend Threnody For The Victims Of Hiroshima For 52 Stringed Instruments by Penderecki. It's this crazy sort of avant-garde piece that's probally one of the most emotionally raw pieces I've ever heard. It's just... wow. Blows my mind.
