yes, the cover is cate blanchett in viktor and rolf's "i love you" gown, the same one karolina kurkova wore to the cfda awards...

and

the newstand edition has the viktor & rolf.
if you subscribe you'll be receiving Valentino Couture.

I didn't know that they had two versions!
Got a question here: do you guys work for the magazines? How come I never receive them that early?
Does anybody have the publish dates of those magazines?
Thanks! :flower:

Here's the V&R one. I'm glad I'm getting the Val one cause I don't really like it. I think it's the writing. There's too much including the dress.

eds:
"Fall's Finest" by Anthony Ward. Anja and Anthony Ward are one trick ponies; this looks exactly like his last two collaborations with Valentina in Bazaar. A bore.

"The Wild Bunch" by Jason Schmidt. Interviews with Tilda Swinton (in Viktor & Rolf), Chloe Sevigny (in Dolce & Gabbana), Jessica Lange (in J. Mendel), Frances Conroy (in Oscar de la Renta), and Julie Delpy (in Rochas), stars of the new Jim Jarmusch film "Broken Flowers." There's also a one page interview with Sharon Stone (in Ferre), who makes a cameo in the film. I was sure Chloe would get a cover out of this movie, but I guess it won't be Bazaar.

"The New Classics" by Solve Sundsbo. Missy Rayder is a fave of mine, but not in these shots. I love her collaborations with Glen Luchford, and usually Sundsbo shines, but the backdrop is drab and doesn't allow Katie Grand's styling to stand out.

"Cate Shines" by Alexi Lubomirski. She's elegant, intelligent and classy. The photos are nice as well.

"Clothes to Fall in Love With" by Alice Hawkins, styled by Katie Grand. Gisele looks super cute posing with some adorable boys, mechanics and football players. A great contrast to her ed from W earlier this year. This girl's still got it!

other eds:

"What Makes Giorgio Armani Tick?" by Karl Lagerfeld. Pics of the designer with Jaunel, Marina Peres, and Katja.

"Fashion with a Heart" by Andreas Sjodin. Linda V. in a story about labels with a social conscious. She looks amazing...I've been missing her alot.

"A Fashionable Life" At home with Vuitton PR director Camille Miceli.

"The Way I Looked" by Angelica Huston. The actress looks back on her first appearance in Bazaar, in 1969.

"Fashion Meets Art" Profiles of two bands, The Citizens Band, featuring Karen Elson and Melissa auf der Mar, and Mother Inc. with Yvonne Force.

- Padma Lakshmi shops for the best fall accessories
- best dressed from the CFDA awards (a measly single page?)
- Bazaar hosts a dinner for Alber Elbaz to celebrate his CFDA International Award

verdict: with Vogue only having one ed, and a lackluster one at that, it's easy to give Bazaar the edge this month. now here's hoping their momentum will continue into September.

Something about the face area I don't like... maybe because the photo isn't that polished... the light just looks harsh on her. But I think the dress is wonderful...

OMG... Karolina Kurkova wore that dress to the MET ball too!

ok so i just got my copy in the mail...and i really wish i had a scanner...coz the subscribers' cover is infinitely better. i mean i wouldnt give it an A+ or anything but its def. a lot better than the i love you dress one

thanks a lot for the review, kimair! i can't wait to see the gisele ed...

Thanks for the review too, kimair. :flower:

Anthony Ward doesn't have a voice, and casting Anja Rubik doesn't help matters. Two bads don't make one right.

I however liked the Sundsbo edit. It was serene. But as usual I find Missy's stares to be menacing.

Alexi Lubomirski is a fast maturing A-List photographer in the making. Having graduated from assisting Mario Testino, his work here actually reminds me of Annie Leibovitz. Judging from his portfolio for Bazaar, I think he'll move quite easily between outdoorsy shoots and celeb pictorials set in mansions. He could make women look happy and poised at the same time.

Ah, Gisele.

I thought the Linda V edit is a major failure. She looks completely washed-out.

Bazaar has had the edge over Vogue for the past three months by my count. I'd love to see them bring back Greg Kadel and Glen Luchford and Mario Sorrentti.
