US Cosmopolitan Spring 2026 : Sydney Sweeney by Morgan Maher

so who exactly is cosmo's reader? last time i checked there were topless hunks to thirst over inside, not this busty babe lol.

it feels so weird to go from this hyper-inclusive just a few seasons ago back to this unapologetically white (trash) barbie. especially in the current climate.
It's probably the best place Cosmo can go financially right now. Cosmo loves pushing "bimbo", women who see themselves that way are more likely to buy the cheap bits and bobs that will advertise in Cosmo. And who knows, maybe Cosmo will sell a few rags to men, which is not a bad idea, as more women turn away from this sort of thing.

To me, this is very much more "Maxim" than a women's magazine. It hasn't held my interest in a very long time.

It seems odd that for someone who so relentlessly pursues any and all press, she remains kind of a mystery. I don't know if she's hapless and making mistakes or if it's all strategic and she's exactly where she wants to be. Incredibly successful rage baiter or bumbling idiot who can't help but step in it. I kinda lean towards the former? But why? I don’t really understand her MO. She seems to want to be everything. Is her strategy just to say yes to every single thing and make hay while the sun shines? She acts in and even produces ostensibly feminist and LGBT-friendly projects, while also being very intentional and transparent about aggressively courting the most base sort of male attention as part of her brand. I don’t think she deserved the backlash over the American Eagle ads, but she also chose not to clarify her stance. Was she trying to send a message, or just scared to clarify at the risk of alienating a revenue stream? Apparently, she calls the paps on herself to capture PDA-heavy park dates with her widely loathed boyfriend? Keep that sh!t hidden, girl. And then goes into business with Jeff Bezos to sell lingerie? Unforced errors galore. Maybe I'd do it too, for a check, but it doesn't seem like this is a good long-term career strategy.

Whole time, she appears to want to be taken seriously as an actress. She packed it on to play a boxer and mounted a big Oscar campaign (that was never really plausible), and now she’s setting up an Edith Wharton adaptation as a prestige star vehicle. Who the hell is that for? It’s hard to tell what lane she’s actually in or wants to be in. Does she want to be Emma Stone? Kim Kardashian? Both? The constant oscillation between her apparent ambitions gives me whiplash.

The cover is an embarrassment. Shut it down.

The cover is stunning. The editorial not so much.
I love how much she bothers her chronically online, and chronically dumb critics,
while going from success to success.

Really, really, really bad attempt at a typical Cosmo cover, it does especially give really bad pastiche of late 90s (reprinted to hell all over the world, seemingly outside UK and France, maybe Germany) US edition covers. It just looks so ridiculously bad, instead having her just stand straight on solid color backdrop... instead it is. Instead they ended up with Playboy lite cover

The cover is awful, the pose of pushing the t*ts out is a bit much. She could still have them front and center and better show the lingerie she's trying to sell. Plus those ratty hair extensions aren't doing her any favors.

It has elements of both, Cosmo and Playboy, which is crazy because this magazine came as a response to Heffner portrayal of women. By the pose, she reminds me of to an early 2000s Pamela Anderson. She used to make this kind of magazine covers back in the day.
