What is with the heavy wintry styling, is this cover for Australia? Solange is essentially very fashion-forward so the styling is not too out-there, but she doesn't pull this look off. It's too overwhelming! And her hair looks awful.

I seem to recall an African Elle cover she did a while back (must've been South Africa) - yellow, bright, full of prints. That looked good, and season appropriate.

Tragic, where are her boxing gloves.

Disappointed by this tremendously, because when I heard earlier Solange was on the cover, I thought it would have been a beautiful portrait shot (something along the lines of what Interview gave us). While I understand Solange isn't the most conventional or conservative of personalities out there, and someone Elle could take a risk with.. I find this horrendous from start to finish. What's the betting there's a far more cover-worthy shot in the feature?

Oh hell. What a waste of a spectacular looking girl. Who on earth thought that was a look appropriate for a March cover? Interview proved this girl can photograph incredibly. This is all just a wasted opportunity. Blergh.

What in the world is she wearing? This doesn't look like spring at all.

I don't get why people dislike this, she looks great and it's very Solange Knowles if you actually know what Solange is to fashion.

The cover and editorial is giving me major Issey Miyake & Irving Penn vibes, which I love! However, its not all that.

Yessss Solange!!! So happy to see her cover a major issue and she looks incredible!!

She may be on the cover, but it's not all about Solange. March is also the biggest fashion month, only after September, so there's bound to be a lot of impulse buyers. But how many will buy into the idea of a (winter) coat for a hot summer? Not many, I imagine.

Unfortunately there's not one cover-worthy shot in the edit posted above, so this entire venture was a complete waste of time and money.

And in the 80s, US Elle would have turned that cover shot into a stunning combination of body and clothes, beautiful shades and textures meeting lines and angles.

Sadly, some parts of the 80s are not having a revival.
