Bruce Springstein on the September issue cover for a women's fashion mag? On what planet does that make sense? Also, not to be rude, but who the hell knows or cares about Jessica Springstein on top of that? This is such a disaster I can't even fathom what the logic behind this was.

Extremely sad...she is not even old enough for all of it...

Anyways, Kanye has the best cover IMO (though no suitable for a fashion mag)... those babies are the cutest!

Whatever, Bruce is a legend. Though this cover is indeed very flat and I can't think how it appeals to the core audience (doesn't HB have mostly subscribers vs. getting their income from the newsstand?) Love the cast for the Sorrenti feature, the images so far are predictably blah (of course) however. Erykah looks a bit weird in her portrait with her kids. Didn't even recognise her.

We shouldn’t blame Glenda for this. This is all Carine’s doing. I don’t think Glenda even has an option to reject her trash.

Shocking than Springsteen & his daugther are on the cover of this mag. This look a bad copy for the "Family issue" from Vogue Italia June 2016, also shot by Sorrenti. It seems than the Carine's glory days dissappear.

Bruce cover looks a Rolling Stone cover.
Curious to see Aguilera's pics. Im enjoying her high fashion persona return.

    This is just awful.

I understand that for a magazine like US Harper's Bazaar you're catering to an entirely different audience, but that doesn't mean it has to be bad. What's the point in hiring Carine Roitfeld if she's not going to put a twist on things, however small that might be? Does her name really count for that much to the average HB reader to allow such mediocrity to continue? And after a few years of this nonsense, does her name really give any weight to the magazine in fashion circles any more?

When you think of the charm, wit and sex appeal of what she used to produce, compared to this flaccid rubbish, the difference is shocking. Is there really no way to elevate even the most commercial of fashion magazines? I would love to know the politics behind the scenes. Is Carine being forced into these terrible ideas and going along with it because she's biding her time for the EIC position, or is all this really her idea and the magazine is obliged to print it? Even more shocking would be if everyone involved is actually happy with the results.

The little bunfight she had with Gan over the Karl/Kanye/Kim cover a while back highlighted more than anything how little preparation actually goes into what's arguably their most important story of the year. There was no theme/storyline for the shoot and Gan improvised the selfie idea, plus Karl kept everyone waiting for something crazy like 6 hours. So no, I really doubt whether there ware even a concept for this shoot. And you're right, Hearst shouldn't be content with this.

Carine’s Work at Bazaar is just pure name-dropping. It’s all that matter...
I mean, Kanye is wearing his own clothes.

I wonder how things works at Hearst because nobody is going to tell me that Glenda is happy that such a rubbish story was chosen as a cover story!!

This story is similar to what Carine did for Barney’s with Mario when she left Vogue in 2011. Nothing new under the sun.

People love her, she is fun and friendly but seriously, she needs to see beyond money for her current work. At least, put more involvement in what you are doing for god’s sake!

But i’m sure her own CR Fashion Book thing will be better than this.
And the fact that she choose West for the cover is a proof that she is chasing that millennial consumer.... Oh Carine!

love the subscribers edition cover. and to those saying fashion is dead, there shouldn't be any surprise to the casting of american fashion publication covers. we are all well aware that celebrity markets sell covers in the states. not sure why people are still shocked by celebs being on the covers or whatever. its been like this for the last two decades now.

We're shocked by the new levels of laziness surrounding the use of famous names.

It's precisely because they're relying on the idea that 'celebrity' sells that we're not seeing the sort of content that we once would have done - when magazines would have tried to put a spin on things. Now it's just family portraits, a bunch of surnames, frequently photoshopped into the same shot as each other.

The composition of Kanye's cover is very striking. It's miles better than the newsstand cover whose quality comes off as if they literally did zero effort to produce the image. Having said that, does Bazaar think people look forward to any content about Kanye given the bad reputation he has gotten lately? Or perhaps the more proper question should be, does Bazaar's audience really care for anything about him?

If they really wanted this whole "exclusive family" issue to work, they should've made an attempt at reaching out to the Carters. But then again, Carine's superb skill at networking might have to work overtime for that to happen. :innocent:

Maybe she did made an attempt to get the Carters for this. But it’s obviously out of the question, since Beyoncé will appear on the September cover for Vogue.

weird covers....that magazine seem so lost for years....it would be very informative to know exactly the process of this....Carine produces these material but of course under HB aesthetic and retouching...it makes it flat...maybe Carine needs to control the whole magazine instead of producing this. and Glenda? needs a vacation forever...

The worst thing about Carine's September stories is the fact all the editions inevitably have to use it, either on the newsstand cover or if we're lucky quietly on the subscriber's cover, and it gets in the way of any interesting September covers from the international editions. Just pure laziness, there's no thought or conception, at least last year's "icons" included some actual fashion personalities.

With all the excitement around the 3 big Vogue covers (Us,Uk and Paris) this feels very irrelevant. Even more considering that this is supposed to represent the StarPower of Carine...

She would have been more clever in using her influence to get a supermodel than this...
