US Harper's Bazaar December 2005 : Kate Winslet by Peter Lindbergh

Kate Winslet is like one of my top 5 favorite actresses and I prefer the second cover to the first.

more on this issue, from fwd:

After encrusting the logo of its Dec. 2004 issue with 300 hand-applied Swarovski crystals, Harper’s Bazaar has upped the sparkle quotient a notch for ’05. The issue, which features Kate Winslet wearing a $46,000 Swarovski crystal dress and $120,000 long feather coat, is given that extra umph via a special ribbon design, comprised of more than 500 crystals. “We wrapped this special edition of the December issue in a Swarovski crystal bow, as we wanted it to be a beautiful holiday gift for our VIP readers,” said editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey. With that in mind, only 5,000 copies of the issue will be produced—requiring over 2.5 million crystals that were flown in from Swarovski headquarters in Austria—each covered in a vellum dust jacket.

This it their Best Dressed Issue, and it's one of the worst of all time.
The catagories are 20's, 30's, 40's... and so on. A page for each. Only one large pic on each page, the rest such small pics!
On the 30's page, in the pic of Charlize Theron, it's so small and the lighting so bad you can hardly tell what she is wearing.

I don't agree with alot of their choices either.:innocent:

Cover: White background and Kate. So terrible. She really just looks ugly and piggish. I love Kate too. So this cover really is just that bad. I love the new stand's though. Peter Lindberg is the cause.

Ads (just a few):
Harry Winston: Malgosia (she has become more beautiful)
Dior Acc: Elvis' grand daughter. why?
Banana Republic: Kristen Mcmenamy - opps really Natasha V. I like them both, it would be interesting if they every worked together. I think Kirsten wouldnt want too, it look too mother/daughter.
Neiman Marcus: Tiuu, wow she is very underwhelming.
Dennis Basso: Maggie R, i would love to see her really do some (good) editorial. fat or skinny - i dont care. I loved her looks (just not this SO air brushed look). If she has some extra lbs, flaunt them. now that would be interesting.
Chanel: back cover shot of johnny's girl

Kate by Lindbergh. I think this is great. All the photos are really festive and warm. Nothing like the cover. Only problem looks like a fashion ed out of Town in Country or O. Which really inst terrible because most magazines looks are really blending. Still, its perfectly pulled off. And great for this time of year.

"The Best Black Dresses" stars Doutzen by Terry Tsiolis. Ok so how can this girl be so beautiful yet so dreadfully boring. She has only 1 face she can pull off. It has carried her far but the girl just simply looks stupid. on pg 228 - really do woman come more beautiful?...but she is so boring and has zero personality.

"YSL Remixed" by Anthony Ward shoots Anja? I am not sure who the model is. Studio/out shots. not terrible.

"Giles Deacon: Fashion's Future?" by Solve Sundo. With a cast of Elise C, Hana, Euguenia (I think), Stella, Raquel Zimmerman, Karen Elson, Missy R, and an uknown to me. Then a shot of Karen, Missy, and Raquel. You know...with a cast of models and a good photographer - why so short? sad.

"The New Classics" by Alice Hawkins with Shalom. Aristocratic/Equestrian style. Shalom looks great. Daria has nadda on her.

Well, I like Bazaar. I even like it more than Vogue. I route for the underdog. I do think the Glenda needs to go. I like Lindbergh and Sundo. I even enjoy seeing up and comers working in the mag.

thanks:flower:

I found this issue to be oddly lacking in information about the upcoming season, esp in comparison to the others. Don't know if I agree with them, but of the major American magazines, Elle may have made the best attempt at analyzing the trends ...

does anyone have scans from that preppy editorial? it was really cute
