re people overreacting over Lupita
I think Lupita is a big deal because she isn't the typical black Hollywood actress, who often have lighter skin, straight hair, etc... I get the impression a lot of white women are really into her, which bucks the popular idea that women are usually only interested in people who look similar to themselves or could look like them (Jennifer Aniston, Lauren Conrad.) We've all heard the "black people don't sell magazines" which I'm sure has been true but might be changing... I think women are becoming more interested in people who don't look like them, likely because of how open race discussion and awareness has grown. Of course Lupita has a thin figure and a harmonious face and is young and sweet, but I can't think of another actress with that dark of skin and that short of hair making such a splash. It's very exciting to see, but it may indeed just be a fad or only happen for her - but I hope the Lupita love represents a change.
