^ that story is crazy! this entire issue is and.. the Radio City Music Hall guy was spot on back in 1939!:

In the morning, shorts and a halter. Afternoon, a short skirt. Evening, a long skirt. The whole theory of this decorator of Radio City Music Hall, creator of Fair Exhibits, is on page 137.

He was only wrong on the decorative part, it's the opposite: all utilitarian, rarely decorative.
