US Vogue January 2014 : Cate Blanchett by Craig McDean

I'm just shocked by this statement! There has been so many wonderful covers in 13 (and really bad ones as well), but this incredibly bland shot of Cate is instantly forgettable, so to say this, is just hard to understand. Especially on a fashion forum, no offense to you, i just couldn't disagree more! What is so amazing in this cover, can you explain what excites you about it, perhaps?

i've gotta disagree with this...
the majority of the covers from 2013 were bad imo...too much airbrushing, bad body position, text is strange places, weird color combinations, dour expressions...
not to say that this cover is something earth shattering, but she isn't airbrushed to death and the color palette is quite fresh for january...
it's better than many of the covers from last year...

I like the cover very much. It's not fantasy, it's just an elegant, talented woman looking like herself. I can totally see her wearing that Celine dress in real life, too. I always like it when celebrities are styled in a way that feels true to how they look outside of magazine pages. It's just a good photograph, a good portrait. The simplicity of it is refreshing, to me.

Amanda in Dior is divine! I'm not a huge fan of Karlie but my she can pull out a pose

This issue sounds better than their boring September one.

Since when the January issue sounds even more excited than the September one? The collection editorial by McDean is nice! Love the Prada one with Vanessa and Amanda! And so happy to see Sam Rollinson in Vogue US!

I absolutely adore this cover. I love Cate Blanchett but it's not like she is particularly stunning here, so I think it's the pose and the color scheme that I like so much. She does not seem stiff and I am completely engaged with the image.

The content of the magazine - I'm on the fence. I love some aspects to death (the casting and some images) but I'm not quite over the moon. After the Jessica Chastain disappointment, I am so happy with this new issue though. (I love Jessica so I'm sure my expectations were too high.)

It's great that Imaan has three incredible shots in 'More is More' and with that stunning first image of the editorial nonetheless. Even the exagerrated bold brows work well on her. Not so thrilled about Sam getting those goofy wigs though, especially in that grotesque LV outfit.

^ but aren't those the same wigs as in the Marc Jacobs show?

That McDean ed is fab!
Loving all the shots with Imaan and Amanda. That shot with her and Vanessa is great!

McDean's editorial is a major disappointment for me. I dislike how incoherent the images look together, much prefer stories like Sasha Pivovarova's from the November issue by McDean. This one is all over the place, with the different settings and random model casting. The shot of Amanda and Vanessa wearing Prada and Miu Miu is heaven, though. Those two really do compliment each other.

Sims' editorial is clearly the stand out story. You just cannot go wrong with Sasha, who delivers the goods almost every single frame. The shot of her wearing Christian Dior completely knocks the rest outta' the park - I love the silhouette of the shot.

Imaan looks terrific wearing Gucci in Jansson's edit !

All points you made is just part of the course when it comes to US Vogue, its always there, even in this cover shot! Cate's face is completely lifeless here due to airbrushing (shocked some of you are saying she isnt airbrushed, i mean down to those glazed eyes!), she is literally standing in front of a wall, with bad hair, and make-up that doesn't get lift up even by the Céline top colors. This to me looks like a Eva Chen approved Lucky cover. And it should never happen because Vogue is entirely in a different lane, with far bigger budgets!

Come next January, i will be oblivious to this cover image, and will probably have to look it up. While i still perfectly recollect last years cover with Gwen, what she was wearing, that she was sitting legs spread open on the piano even, it was a memorable cover, unlike this.

I love Cate, but it just feels lazy, they should have used her far better. Its not even a flattering shot of her!

Such a fresh and jam-packed issue. Everything about this make me excited about new year's fashion, especially Jansson's ed.

Everything is wrong about this cover, poor Cate looks horrible, her eyebrows are a mess:shock:

So they booked Oscar Isaac in a editorial to put him on one profile shot?

I think people confuse the image as not photoshoped because it´s a scan. The skin texture is due to the scanner, not lack of PS. I´d like to see the digital version...

imo there are positive things to point out: the dress, the cuff and the hand´s position (it´s elegant but with a little whimsy)
