Ensemble cast photo shoots of today look so painfully tedious and ungraceful with US VOGUE being the worst offender. Most modern day group editorials (hello recent VF Marvel cover) make me cringe in the complete and utter lack of design principles and understanding of how these groupings look across page layouts and covers.

The objective today appears to be "cram the maximum number of money-making bodies into the frame" and hope for the best.
It's like the photographers and editorial teams of yesteryear (vintage VF multi-cast cover) understood and valued creative photographic composition and concepts.
Not just pushing commerce but producing challenging, clever beautiful images which sing and fascinates the viewer from across the page and across the room.
