Valentino Haute Couture F/W 2016.17 Paris

I can see three 'remake dresses' in this collection, but amazing as always

Costumes that are made well.

I'll probably be in the minority but this is terrible

Christian Dior gets what it deserves w/ this one heading their design team.

i like the more feminine ones

the matronly crap can die.. who wears that? never ever seen anyone in that rubbish

I still find it hard to believe that Valentino's couture line gets so much praise. Do women really want to dress like Victorian queens?

Another expected (even with it surprises) Valentino collection.
I love the pants looks. They looks fresh but that's it.
Their shows are held at the same hotel particulier, with models looking the same and even if the garnments are not the same...they feels like the same old.

I don't mind couture looking a bit costumey. Those are exceptional clothes for people living a larger-than-life life and who (for the majority) will not wear those clothes more than 5 times.
Those dresses are made to make an impact.

1 Valentino dress will stand out but 60 Valentino dresses = snoozefest!

If couture was done and wore in a vacuum I'd totally agree with this collection and it's historical references. To me this collection feels too much dusty old museum compared to today's fashion, but I guess HC is a world in itself and what comes in may or isn't always a reference to current days. There's a lot of beautifully worked garments and some poetic dresses. But does a fashion collection own up to its status as influential and inspirational if it looses it's touch with NOW?

Ironically enough, there are some looks in this collection that remind me (and when I say remind me I mean that you'd have to be drunk with glaucoma to mistake them for the same thing, but still) of Galliano's ill-received Pocahontas collection in 1998. The sort of Tudor/Elizabethan touches -- slashed sleeves, ruffs, portrait necklines -- kinda tie into that collection.

This is mostly just Galliano/McQueen for people who didn't pay attention during world history.
