Valentino Haute Couture F/W 2022.23 Rome

This was horrible. The focus was clearly more on the location than the clothing. It was the same thing he has been doing for the last few seasons, but worse. The shoes were hideous. The casting brought the clothing down even more. Also did some of the models have fake tattoos ? Ridiculous.

Why was this titled “The Beginning” when it was more of the same ? Is PPP about to leave ? This was one of the worst collections of the week. At least from what I saw at Dior, MGC put some effort into the details. Awful.

It's BAD

The livestream was so bad, I ended up falling asleep since I could not actually see the clothes and it kept buffering.

Looking at the pictures, I did not miss much! The slinky white gown is lovely in its simplicity, the rest is just an exercise in recycling of years-old ideas.

literally only saw snippets of the clothing in the live stream,

I like a lot of the garments but he needs to expand his repertoire.

Always the same feathers, same silhouette, same flower motif.

As a collection it doesn't make sense, is messy and all over the place, much like my feelings towards it. It's a rollercoaster of a collection in a way.

He should have played more with the sexy and glamorous looks for this collection since we never get that from him and it is a part of the Valentino DNA that he has largely stayed away from.

I hope Valentino Garavani does not suffer a stroke after seeing this disaster.

Too long and too tasteless. Most part of the looks here belong in an Off-White collection, not in a Valentino HC collection.

The only thing I liked about this is the color palette, some eyecatching shades of turquoise and especially the bright green outfits turned me on... for a few seconds.

But this is not Valentino at all, not the Valentino that used to make me dream even when it used to get repetitive sometimes. I was lucky enough (and a bit sad to say the least) to see Valentino Garavani's last show because I could foresee this happening one day or another. Now sitting from far, far away from the last row, I can only witness a distinctive brand with a strong identity turned into a tasteless, shameless mess like many, many others.

He did a full one eighty after Maria left and just stayed there. Not that it's an identical collection each season, but they're such slight alterations that it might as well be. The colors, the silhouettes, the same damn round feathered headpiece - I can just imagine their atelier floor all covered in scraps and plucked feathers like the backstage of a burlesque show.
Don't get me wrong, I usually like it. There's some very cute pieces here and there and it's probably gonna look great in print or the red carpet, but when you take a step back you can notice how messy most of it looks. That outfit on Mariacarla is one of the ugliest things I've seen all week. I'm having trouble highlighting particular garments that stood out to me, it's mostly the popping colours that catch my eye. The roses on mens jackets are very Vaccarello (and he does it better). And the fit of certain garments is quite unfortunate looking, which should be embarrassing for a couture collection. I have to point out the single plus sized model whose dress looks absolutely terrible on her and manages to look too big and too small at the same time - not to mention the horrendeous shoe design with those feathers almost halfway up to her calf. Not a good look!

I prefer Maria's take on Valentino this season.

That's a lot of clothes for a collection didn't say much.

103 looks and the only look 94 is the closest thing he has in terms of Valentino spirit.
Big volumes, feathers overdose, weird colors combination that's not giving what he thought they would. Typical PP Valentino collection at this point.

Even Maria has a better take on Valentino than him this season

The only thing I enjoy in this collection is the final when he walked out with the atelier.
