I saw this recently too and it was brilliant. I have to say that I have a newfound respect for Valentino. He is a truly inspiring person, although at times I felt like the film showed him in a condescending light (the tantrums! :lol).
It starts with a behind-the-scenes look at Fall 2007. The better part of the film however is constructed around documenting his Haute-Couture Spring 2006 collection and the preparations for the celebrations in Rome, the exhibition, and of course his Fall 2007 Couture collection in Rome etc.
I also came to detest Marzotto; he is so arrogant and finance-driven and seemed to care not for Valentino and more for making more money. I felt sorry for Valentino in the end. Throughout the film, it was like they were endlessly trying to minimize how much power Valentino had in the company. It was frustrating and I don't blame him when at one point he exclaimed something like "I should be the centre of attention"!
At the end I wanted to cry when they acknowledged Fachinetti, but made it sound as if she had simply 'moved on' or something. They fired her! And very abruptly at that!
I've seen it last week!!! it was beautiful---- the images were just fantastic! Mr Valentino was really cute and funny at times. But it was also an emotional film!!! I cried during the last part!!
And I would never forget the scene after his couture show, Karl grabbed the hands of Valentino and whispered to him: "Compared to us, the rest are making rags."-Karl
On amazon.com you can preorder which i found out the other day. I spent a long time looking for it online, its better off just buying it anyway. It would be a great reminder every now and again, of the beauty of haute couture.. and valentino.
The only version of the film I can find is without the subtitles also. There doesn't seem to be any to be found online for it either, which is a shame.
It doesn't appear to be getting a UK DVD release anytime soon either.
just watched this movie tonight and adored it!!!
i was in heaven watching him visualize the dresses and bringing them to life....i would totally join a facebook petition to bring him back as creative director. he is truly one of a kind.
