Victoria's Secret Etc, Etc (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

That comment on TheImagist definitely sounds like VS, but the interesting thing is that according to reports - perhaps untrue, VS is still signing models to contracts, but they are not labeling their new contract models Angels - of course you can become a temp Angel if you win an online contest, how you doin' Kylie. ;) Anyhoo, didn't they just sign Candice, Chanel, Rosie and a couple of others to contracts(?), I think they are referring to this group as "Supermodels" on their website.

My guess is that there are VS Angels and like previously mentioned, this will probably be three or so models; but it seems like there will also be a VS minor league (that is not meant in a snotty way), these are models who have VS contracts but are not Angels. Perhaps these are girls who represent the brand and sell merchandise but not to Angel standards or someone who they think is Angel material but they are testing her out before they give her the big contract and title.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE!:flower:

ok but Adriana was only gone because she was pregnant...Doutzen what was her excuse. I can guarantee Adriana coming back with a bang...but NO idea where you think that means Doutzen will come back...
..the simple fact I do NOT see Doutzen and Erin (chanel. lindsay...), they both in one ad, e.g:blink::lol::sick:....She might look like her mom .... I don´t know if i explain:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I hope Chanel is safe! Razek has had his eye on her for years and seems to really believe in her.

I think they were only talking about the Angels (whoever those are right now). They're the ones making the seven figures if they're lucky. They don't give seven figures to just any ol' girl that they sign and when they do it's only after they've been an Angel for a couple of years. So the comment has nothing to do with Candice, Chanel, Rosie, Lindsay etc. because I doubt whatever contract they signed was for seven figures.

Imo we have seen this coming a long time now, considering how they "sign" (or whatever they do) more and more new models, but no one of them announced as an angel. This whole Angel thing has become such a guessing game. I just wrote to Candice`s thread that since this girl isn`t an angel, the whole status doesn`t seem to matter much anymore, work-wise.

Adri and Ale are the last ones standing, I think they are the only ones who have really worked for and deserved this title. The 3rd one? I don`t know, maybe Miranda, if it is one of the current angels. But perhaps, when their angel contracts have expired and sooner or later they will retire, maybe then they won`t sign anyone to be an angel...

If Vs, as a company, feels that they`ve failed with their marketing strategy (trying to sell with house hold name models), then they have to look to the mirror. Last few years there have been way too many girls to keep on track, nobody knows who is really the Angel. Or maybe they just want to do this transition in peace and quiet, just fade the angels away and replace them with new models.

I say cut 'em all. Focus on the product, not the personality. Lima and Allesandro are passe' anyways.

I wonder if this is why a lot of the VS angels are turning to high fashion and other areas to earn money and fame. Maybe none of them are safe and they are branching out into other areas.

I like that move on the models part anyway. It's nice seeing Adriana at Givenchy & LV. And of course the return of KK to high fashion.

Honestly, VS at this point just needs to focus more on women. I don't understand why they think that hiring ultra-skinny, young models with ZERO sex appeal (I'm looking at you, Chanel, Erin, and Lindsay) will pull in a younger demographic. It's obviously not working!

Remember the good old days, with Tyra, Gisele, Ale, Adriana, Heidi? You know, WOMEN? VS really needs to pick a solid line up of about 5 big models to join Ale and Adriana (Daria W? Hilary R? Bar? maybe even Brooklyn?) and stick to it.

Seriously, if next years show is anything like 2009's, I'm ditching the show all together. I do not want to see bobble head Chanel Iman prance around in a jumpsuit, act sexy, and talk about herself becoming an angel. I really hope Ed Razek opens his eyes and drops her and gets a really woman of color to represent the company like Emanuela or Gracie. Don't even get me started on Erin and Lindsay either.

the PINK! line literally saved the company.

Most older women realize VS lingerie is overpriced itchy poorly made crap.

It's the younger girls who buy the sweatpants and stuff with PINK! all over them.

Speaking of the next show, I'd like to see:

gone:
Chanel
Dorothea
Lily A

new/return:
Coco
Lily D

Stam
Flavia
Carmen
KK

Absolutely, but that seems impossible, Ed Razek loves Chanel and has been waiting for her for a long time:blink::huh::sick:...check it out

Ed Razek, president of Victoria's Secret, is amused that the fashion world is rediscovering boldface models, who, naturally, have to have a few years under her belt to become famous.
The first time he met Chanel Iman, she was already considered an It Girl in the fashion world, starting on the runways at 15. But she was too scrawny and young, Razek recalls. Now at age 20 she has a lucrative Victoria's Secret contract.
"She promised in the next year, she'd grow curves — and she did," Razek says.

Do we know that Victoria's Secret as a BUSINESS is in trouble above and beyond the fact that we are in an economic downturn(?) - I thought that they are expanding overseas. IMO, the fact that they cannot find seven or eight Angel caliber models is also an indictment against the modeling industry, namely the agencies. They are more guilty of the short-term thinking that has led to the proliferation of disposable models who only last as long as the "right" designers demand a certain look. I think that VS is committed to developing their models into stars, but the pool of models for them to choose from is not as vast as it was in the past and I wonder if the agencies develop and coach models like they did in the past (or alternatively recruit girls with a good support system).

I second the point that PINK gets a lot of attention because that is where the volume and growth is. I have to say that I liked the PINK segment at the 2009 VSFS a lot more than I have in previous years, because it was a lot more young and fun and less skeevy - there were a few complaints about the lack of lingerie featured, but I actually thought that it was a brilliant move on their part. As a person who has done more than her fair share of railing against scrawny, young things in fashion, I think this is a case where it was done right - although I will never get on board with words plastered across the backsides of sweatpants and the like... NEVER... N-E-V-E-R!!!

They are indeed. A flagship store is due to open in London next year, and a UK/European-based version of victoriassecret.com with next-day-delivery for us is in the works and might be launched as early as later this year. :flower: If they really were doing so badly as a business, no way would they be actively expanding.

Oh man...

The other day I was at the mall and the big cutout in the store window was that of Candice, Chanel and another one (I can't remember if it's Heather or Lindsey). But I just remember thinking to myself that it's a new era of models and I do not like it.

Well Adriana is spear heading the whole summer campaign so that should help a bit.

Gah, I can't wait for Adriana's full VS comevack. Lol about the comment Ed made about Chanel growing in curves. It's obvious this guy has lost his mind by his casting the likes of Erin, Lindsay, and Chanel.

IMO, VS needs new people casting the show and styling. Carine loves VS. I could so see her styling a show. Just imagine what she would do!
