Vogue Arabia July/August 2017 : Jourdan Dunn by Cüneyt Akeroğlu

Okay now we're talking! The first cover is gorgeous! Could pass for a HB UK cover but it's good.

The second one is tragic! Tragic.

I think the first cover looks stunning - styling, setting, the mannequin-like pose. Can understand the Harper's Bazaar comparison though, that font....
The 2nd cover however is as corny as it can get, I'm afraid.

This should be the first issue under the new EIC. Love that all the black models can finally bulk up their Vogue cover count with this edition.

Wait wha... Feel like I'm looking at different covers, the second is just stunning, they got a real moment there, while the first is the tragic one! The stiff pose, the blank expression, no thanks!

Also don't remember any Vogue editions daring to have a model on the cover with closed eyes, recently!

I don't get why they feel the need to release back to back covers of different photos and language. It feels and looks weird. The back cover is usually the priciest ad placement right? Why waste such place with odd covers? They could easily mix two languages in one cover, like all other Vogue covers do, or better yet, stick with one language at all.

From the photos I've seen, the second cover is usually at the back? What's the point of having an English cover if the magazine is also not in English? Odd.

The magazine is partly in English and partly in Arabic. In fact I'd say the bigger part of it is in English

^^if I´m not mistaken arab is read right to left (like japanese and Vogue Japan) so the 2nd cover is the first one actually, it´s the cover displayed on stands.
As far as the language issue, I assumed the mag is half arabic, half english? or at least some features in english as well (like VI used to do, still does?). *EDIT* June just answered this question :D

Styling and pose wise, I prefer the second cover. I just wish her eyes were open...

Wait, but how does that work?? Even if the front is in English and the back in Arabic, how can you display the back on newsstands? It will be back to front, surely....

I recall seeing a men's magazine like that, but then you had to flip the magazine over - top to bottom, which meant that the pages would be printed upside down after a certain point. Front part was the normal edition, back part (with cover) was a supplement. Liked the idea, because then you never lose a supplement....

For those who read English the English cover is the front cover as they turn the pages from right to left when they read a magazine. In the June issue of Vogue Arabia they can read approximately 150 pages in English before the Arabic part starts.
For those who read Arabic the Arabic cover is the front cover because they turn the pages from left to right when they read a magazine. So its normal for them to have the fold on the right side when the magazine is in the newsstand. It's 55 pages in Arabic in the June issue btw.

Thanks for explaining this, June! :flower:

Very interesting, I don't think any other edition does this?!?! Certainly not with front & back cover, I guess they do lose the back cover for advertisers this way, but it looks pretty cool based on videos i seen of it on IG.

Yess Jourdan
This is absolutely stunning, both of them. Good to see them back on form again as most covers since Gigi's debut have been rather disappointing.

Thank you for clarifying the issue June! Really helpful! Although, I have a question... are the English and Arabic contents the same? What if I'm not good in reading English? Does it mean that I lose a good 155 pages of the magazine? Or what if I don't read Arabic, do I lose 55 pages instantly?

In love, this magazine is everything and Jourdan is just flawless.

I don't speak Arabic but judging from the pictures the contents are not the same. In the June issue there is one story in the English part which seems to be written in both English and Arabic (obviously I can't translate it but the layout suggests it).

Looks good but dislike the second cover because she closed her eyes

Can´t wait to see the editorial by Cuneyt Akeroglu  his photography

The second cover is absolutely beautiful. Her eyes closed make it dreamy.
The first cover is fine, but the blankness of her stare makes it seem cold.

Love both covers, Jourdan is just amazing - so pleased for her.

I love this edition so much. So far so good!!

I love the colours but I'm not sold on the styling and poses.
