Vogue Czechoslovakia December 2019 by Anton Corbijn and Branislav Simoncik

I laughed so hard when I saw the woman under the table. HAHAHAHA

The second cover reminds me of something Testino would do in the 90s. Quite like it.

And is this Anton Corbijn’s first Vogue cover?

Oh my eyes!!!!! This is SO white

This is probably better suited for Czechs or Slovaks to discuss, but if the situation is anything similar to North Macedonia, the only ethnic group of color consists of Roma people who due to systemic racism over the years haven't had the opportunities to rise through the ranks and are still regarded as less than the white population. So in that regard, I'm not surprised that the entire cover is made up of white kids.

I don't find the lack of diversity surprising here and honestly, I am glad they didn't simply shove 2 black token models in the cover just to check the diversity box. There aren't many poc in Czech Republic or Slovakia and I assume those are all CS kids? Casting black models just for the sake of it would be more inappropriate than not including them. I don't know if my opinion matters on this case (as I'm not a person of color), but I see the exploitation of black models for the sake of social approval on magazine covers disrespectful and rude. Like that time Vogue Paris gave Adut a cover but only gave her a full size version of that same picture inside a lengthy cover feature with two other white models. Or when Edward did the same. I understand it's good representation, but in my view it's stupid, rude and pointless.

I know it's no laughing matter, but I couldn't contain the chuckles when I read this! Reminded me of the Phoebe gif.

I mean, I already find this edition awfully unnecessary, but then you have the 2nd cover which probably gives you an accurate screenshot of all the fleeting stereotypes of that region. A bunch of terribly attractive people with permanent vacant and cold expressions. The entire cover is about as interesting as a bowl of oatmeal cooked plainly!

The first cover is sublime. And Anton... hope he's becoming a regular fixture.

As a Czech myself, I understand the second cover as a tribute to students who fought for freedom in 1989 and started a revolution which actually led to the fall of communist regime. Like it or not, there has been a minimum of POC back then since our country was practically isolated and the borders were guarded for many years. So, from my point of view, to put POC models on the cover would feel completely forced, just as @aracic wrote. This also applies for the "problematic" headline - it is historically appropriate, but without knowing the context extremely misleading.

The thing that actually confuses me is that this revolution happened in November an this is December issue. I understand the timing thing, but it still feels...strange?

Moreover, there are 4 other limited edition covers made by Czech artists which also represent the 30th anniversary of the revolution. Even though I personally don't like them I get the point. But why on earth come up with the Charlotte cover which is completely out of place? CS Vogue is such a mess.
