Vogue India January/February 2023 : Avanti Nagrath by Nick Sethi

It looks like a photo from a test shoot, though I like the masthead's color.

Omg so amateurish. What's up with the photography? I swear I could've taken the same picture, and even a better one.

India's next top model is....

I find it quite tolerable. The grass makes it so crowded and the text on the right becomes hard to read. Other than it’s quite okay.

A yellow masthead will bring this cover more life than her expression

cover and editorial: Vogue Indie…

You know, when Vogue India started, they actually put in the effort in producing strong fashions stories. They were never going to be in the same league as the brand of creative vision of Franca/Emmanuelle/Angelica at their best, but they held their own that wafted from rich Indian travelogue fantasy to Bollywood charm.

These days, the level of amateur Instagram aesthetic and amateur photography is hilariously abound. I refuse to believe for one hot mess of a second that more than just a student photographer raised on Instagram stories, and Avanti were present for this shoot (maybe a MUA, but Avanti could have done it herself, or they had stopped at the local M.A.C. and had it done there, since it’s just one look). No way in high hell did anymore than 2 people were required to shoot this let’s-shoot-at-the-local-park-on-our-lunch-break effort. Everything about this screams (no) budget (...no creativity, no concept, no effort...), down to the horrendous layout of the cover. Shame, cuz she has the sort of strong, graphic Cubist features of someone like Rossy de Palma, and skilled studio-lighting against a white seamless would have done wonders for such a face.
