If I may ask: Why this obsession with Hiro in 1984? I love the concept and the covers are brilliant – it actually is an interesting project, have one photographer create cover all year round – but what was the reason?

Very typical of magazines. VI also used Meisel for years, Vogue US had Richard Avedon, etc.

Exactly.

Vogue used Avedon & Penn almost exclusively and the magazine came out
twice a month back then.
Harper’s Bazaar used Skrebenski.
Cosmo used Scavullo.
