Can’t say I’m into the fashions of the time— but the advertorials are particularly striking; Versace’s being the lavish standout. Avedon really knew how to pull a group together with such ease and still distinctively hyperstylish. He really was such a main component of why Gianni excelled so untouchably well during his reign. Looking at these early Versace stories/campaigns— never mind the titanic visionaries that would come later in shaping the label of when he was in his imperial rule in the 90s, it’s beyond tragic how Donatella has absolutely reduced the brand to the mess it is today. She’s so lost.

I absolutely can't stand this era, either, frankly...it's just so...unremarkable and boring? Fashion didn't get electric again until the 90's for me...high fashion really hadn't shined since the 60's up until that point, really. Which, in a way, gives hope that we will one day see it shine again...we're only one decade through the misery hahaha...another two to go before the inevitable (?) renaissance?? Hahaha

Anyway, I also agree about Donatella...Versace today is an absolute disaster and embarrassment. Versace does not work in today's climate of ugly teenage models and cheap streetwear fetish. Donatella was better, in my opinion - better than Gianni - during her early 00's heyday...it just was perfect with the obscenely gorgeous Brazilian and Russian model explosion of the time and the confidence of all photographers and stylists involved then who could play with bad taste in the most refined and exclusive way. I will always love that more than Gianni's cheesy shows, personally.

^^^ What I do appreciate that HF then was exclusively all about women and men— not children, nor this creepy, awkward pubescent-looking aesthetic that’s plagued today’s industry, so the sensibilities of the time were created for adults. Or at least, to those that were at least capable of aspiring to be adults. These days, how can there be hope for these kidz' mind and sensibility to ever develop and evolve when they're not challenged creatively and constantly be pandered to???

(As for Gianni, I'll always maintain that it was alway always always the masterful campaigns that saved the brand from being the epitome of eurotrash. And Donatella was absolutely better than Gianni when she first took over. But that was a long long long time ago...)
