The de la Falaise story is eternally gorgeous and lush. Can feel and smell the regal luxury… They don’t make socialites these days like they did back then.
This issue is such a revealing and interesting display of power dynamics at this point for Anna and Franca: Vogue Italia still seems to be second fiddle to American Vogue when it comes to star-pull as Madonna-- at the height of her imperial phase, appeared in that October issue of the same year with what appears to be the full Meisel shoot— while this issue is only given one shot (2 frames) for this story from the same shoot (and what a terrible accompanying story!)… It’s apparent that Anna’s version is far far far superior (Franca’s cover is better tho…), creatively and with the written word— which is not a point of contention one would make of Anna’s Vogue over Franca’s in general LOL The power shift of Italian Vogue producing the strongest and most creative fashion stories of all Vogues didn’t happen until sometime around the mid/late-90s???
(God— 90s-Madonna was such utter, untouchable iconography that not a single popstar in 40 years has yet come close to the body of work she has produced— just on imagery alone… [minus the Evita-crap…]. Even the coolest girl in the world Rihanna can’t compare when it comes to the vast ocean of looks Madonna blazed through so effortlessly, and with such style back then.)
Thanks as always, burbuja!
