great to see they put a star on the cover, cool choice

Yay for a Japanese on the cover of Vogue Nippon!!!

Love this! It's the traditional Vogue Japan cover but I love Rinko, she should have got the February cover last year for her film Kumiko but i'll take this. :crush:

I absolutely love this!!! So trilled to see they put a Japanese celebrity on the cover! And she is wearing Junya freaking Watanabe!!!! I am so happy!!!!

Even Vogue Japan is putting celebs on its covers. The end of the world is coming.

I know they've done in the past.

great styling ruined by a busy layout... they had this weird outfit doing everything for the cover and they went and messed it up with too much text :(

Can anyone speak to why it is so rare to see a Japanese model or actress on the cover of Japanese Vogue? I've always found it curious.

Rinko is amazing and I love the Junya.

Just shut down Vogue and let's get it over with.

I'd be willing to bet it's because they have sooooo many other magazines that "local" celebrities/models can be on? Isn't Vogue Japan almost like a novelty there?

Yes, you're right. We've had this discussion in the thread for Miranda Kerr's cover and some Japanese members offered insightful info. Basically there's this sect of Japanese magazines who do cover their own women, but apparently the readers prefer 'Western' women on "Western' titles like Vogue, Elle etc, because they're somewhat niche-ey. This covers signals yet another move towards the inclusion of their own girls. Tao already have two OG covers to date, which is telling. If they're navigating towards the Vogue China direction, then I have no problem whatsoever. Anyway, I got really excited at the sound of Rinko for VJ, but the text ruins an otherwise stunning shot. Also love the soft, feminine colours. This will be perfect for Feb.
