Vogue Japan January 2024 : XG by Kizen

I've never been a fan of the K-Pop aesthetic but do recognize their influence so I cant be mad.

That is a tragic cover.
Terrible way to promote them tbh. Like should've been a straightforward portrait/group shot? Instead, you're thrown off by the orientation which took so much from the image.
Terrible.

looks like their album cover...

K-pop is so fascinating, why are they constantly scoring all these covers? Imagine all of Little Mix or FLO (neither of which have as many members) on the cover of British Vogue. Or Pussycat Dolls back in the day lmao It's just a ridiculous notion. Even the Spice Girls cover from way back when always felt so random to me.

And without exception, every single k-pop cover I've ever seen has been either awful or unremarkable.

Aren't they a Japanese Girl Group / Jpop, and hence, a Vogue Japan cover?

I genuinely don't know, I've never heard of them. I referred to them as a k-pop band based off another comment above. My mistake! But the point still stands.

XG is a globally oriented group (I heard), Japanese but they work mainly in Korea and release music with English lyrics, lol

The side orientation of the cover photo is a big no. Was the Vogue team trying to be innovative or cool with this decision?

what the effing point to rotate the photo? It’s a big no.

kpop fans are one of the few distinct groups of people reliably buying physical memorabilia (cds, magazines, whatever you can put their idol's face on) in substantial numbers. They're a very profitable market to pander to, especially from the POV of a dying print media industry
