Vogue Japan May 2023 : Ai Tominaga by Sang-Hun Lee

Such a lovely surprise to see her on Vogue again! But whoa, everything is so off!!

Exactly my thoughts. I was just like wowed when I read the title, could hardly believe my eyes... but then I saw the actual cover and it's not really what I was dreaming of. She surely deserves a cover but a better one!

It’s so nice to see her but I think the yellow fonts are bothersome.

Slightly off-topic, but I hope someone answers.

I just received my copy of this edition's March issue and it looks different
from the rest of the magazines that I have in my collection including its spine.
Does it always have a hot pink-colored spine, or does it change its spine color for every issue?

Now back to the topic, I'm glad she has returned on Vogue which I had the same sentiments with when
I opened Cara and Shu Pei's threads, but that photo looks rough. On a brighter note, it's the first
Vogue Japan cover this year that does not have a gimmicky concept (with January having a slime
textured masthead; February for its blurry, Scream 4/Drag Race S1-like filter; March for its weird voyeurism themed
cover; and April for that Minecraft kink that they had with Lisa's daughter).

Such a lovely surprise to see her on the cover. Too bad it’s such an eyesore.

Awful cover but amazing model.
I agree with everyone else.

I wish they had cropped it in more and relied on the colours of the dress.

The pink spine started since October 2022 issue when they had the re-design of the art direction for this magazine. When Vogue Nippon first launched, it had white spine from the first issue until August 2001. From September 2001 to September 2022, it had always been red spine.

I'm happy to see her again! She's aged so beautifully and still delivers a lot (considering that cover the wrost scenario lol).

Not sure it's her makeup or the awful retouch, she looks like a mechanic there, and there is a visible line across her breast area, they really don't care huh? The preview is even worse, I guess that kind of color palette is probably becoming their new identity.

I was hopeful with this art direction, but they're really botching it.

Whoever thought of putting so much text on top of that lace.. in that font color and size... needs a VERY VERY long vacation.

Like Vogue Germany, some rethinking is in order.

Bring the white backdrop covers back! God, never believed I would say this
I know, I know... I wasn't fond of their white background back then but now... who knows what I'm going to miss next!

Love Ai!!!! stunning, hate the Vuitton piece but she makes it work.

for some reason i like it. i love how decorative the japanese lettering looks and overall their cover design has become more japanese lately, which i think is a good sign? what about the inside of the magazine, have there been any changes?

I like it a whole lot!
Excited, of course, to see miss Tominaga;
I like the composition, colors and layout; It's very straightforward, which I love.
She looks very anime to me, and the Vuitton fits perfectly with the cartoonish zipper and oversized bow.
