Vogue Korea January 2023 by Dukhwa Jang & Heejune Kim

Cover #2: Ive by Heejune Kim

Wow IVE. They bagged Vogue Korea for such a short time in their career. Insane.

I'm elated to see someone who isn't flawless enough from Korean standards as their cover star. I prefer seeing the likes Guesung Cho, whose scars are visible on those covers, than V or G-Dragon last year. The one in red LV shirt is also my favorite Vogue Korea cover since América's September cover last year.

I'm glad that they also featured top models on their cover. Not a fan of the photography, but kudos to them for finally putting their local models on the cover after months as they deserve.

That cover with IVE, though, isn't my cup of tea. It's just as hideous as Jisoo's covers last year with BW photo + bright-colored masthead. It looks amateurish to me.

Those raised arms are doing certain things to me. Umm chile, anyways. Good cover! Don't care about the rest.

I received my January issue today with Guesung Cho on the cover, and it is just as great in print as it is online. Though their January issue isn't as thick as their general issues with just 278 pages (last year's January issue was at least 306 pages), it still has 12 editorials all throughout the issue.

My scans

The first half of the issue focuses on art exhibitions and Korean architecture while the latter half are fashion editorials with celebrities, mostly. Still, Guesung's photo shoot is the highlight of this issue; he's one athlete who can pass as a model like what the others are saying online when Vogue Korea released his covers last month. The photo shoot with Lulu, Sua, and Yeri, albeit being simple, is also cute. I'm looking forward seeing their homegrown models on their upcoming covers. Collectively, though, this issue is just okay and not by any means captivating. Good thing they didn't put Blackpink on their cover this month. That tacky shoot with graffiti-like concept does not warrant a cover.

I choose this cover too! I want a lifesize poster
Looks like a good issue, altho has blackpink on it

It's my favorite Vogue cover this month, I can't resist buying it instead of the ones with top models. As of Blackpink, it's certainly the worst photo shoot in this issue. It's even worse than one particular editorial inside that doesn't have a strong concept.

The guy is so hot. Some forum members said that they are against to see men on the cover of Vogue, but no camplaints if the cover looks good. I know this style of putting shirtless or muscle/handsome guys on the cover belongs to Cosmopolitan magazine, which isn't a full fashion publication, but after seeing so many girls in bikini on the cover of GQ, the real and only male equivalent to Vogue, feels like justice and it's a logic editorial movement from these days. Koreans has a really good sense of style, great aesthetic, and works most of the times. British and American Vogue quite failed because Chalamet o Styles, even with all their fandom, aren't strong enough to appeal everybody. In the past we had George Clooney, and him alone would have been more powerful than these young guys. A woman likes to see an Idris Elba or a Jon Hamm guy because they look so strong, handsome and confident. They can sell you anything. And guys want be like them or also enjoy their beauty. If I see Harry Styles wearing Gucci or Chalamet wearing women's clothes (even isn't bad at all, I must say! I'm a huge fan of Bowie and he was unique) I'm out.
