Bizarrely, I can access the digital version of this issue via my local library... this issue is 186 pgs, the first few pages are given over to a Dior skincare ad, and aside from the Chanel ad on the back cover, this magazine is solid content, going straight from one feature into the next.
A large part of the content is Vogue Italia levels of studio-shot nonsense, where someone tries their hardest to make images seem more interesting by styling things in deliberately ugly or garish ways, or by adding an arty frame or scrawl, but in the end, ultimately saying nothing.
However, I get the impression that Vogue Plus is trying to be an indie version of Vogue, but in a good way, because there are definitely times when it works.
The cover story "Eileen Gu: Hopeless Romantic" (24 pgs) is not the only section in this issue that features her, but as an opener, I do like it. The story has shots of Eileen wearing fashion against a skiing/snowy backdrop, but this is interspersed with grainy, moody shots of mountains and a few b/w images where skiers look like tiny cosmonauts on the surface of the moon, black silhouettes against the powdery snow.
I'm glad this magazine exists, and that there's an avenue where a Vogue can at least try something like this.
Looking at the digital back issues available at the library, it's been titled Vogue Plus for the last three issues, and before that, it was Vogue Me.
