Vogue Russia March 2022 : Michaela Stark by Lea Colombo

That's really thrilling now, I like both Stark's and Colombo's work so I dare to have rather high expectation for the inside.

Rolls of fat on Vogue yet again, as if it is the only thing that fits the "body" issue topic. Where are all the barely walking stick thin ones?

Beautiful image, not sure how I feel about it as a cover though.

There is plenty to look at from the Vogue Archive and a quick youtube search "2005 Fashion Shows".

Love me some fat on a Vogue cover.

Yeah, but I live now, and fashion changes, and I want to be represented now. All this superskinny-shaming on TFS and on Vogue these days, ugh... I remember the days of people bashing Hedi's SLP campaign with Kiki, because of an "anorexic" model on the photos. Can you imagine people on the Internet, who aren't her personal doctors, had the guts to claim that her, or many other models in this case, were anorexic, and claimed they weren't healthy?

Oh, wait...

The problem is, there is quite a lot of representation for that body type even nowadays really, on the runways, magazines and campaigns. I do agree however either extreme is not good at all. We've had extremely thin models dying from heart failures (Ana Carolina Reston) and obese models setting a bad example for our society (Tess Holliday) and those are just a few examples. Body shaming has always been an issue since TFS was born. Back in 2003 users were fighting whether Andreea Stancu was too thin and looked anorexic and Crystal Renn had no place in fashion and needed to lose weight.

I want to clarify that this is a healthy (no pun intented) discussion about weight in fashion which relates back to this cover's subject. I'm happy we're evolving and expanding our definition of beauty.

Thank you lots for the weighted and sober response, I actually totally agree with your point and did not expect it. Body shaming, though, is a much older issue, I am sure it has been around as long as human kind and will persist, unfortunately.

Are we allowed to talk about body issues now that TFS is not popular?

First of all, my biggest disappointment (and literally disgust!) is not caused by these photos. That happened last year when I learned that one of my favourite photographers today - Sølve Sundsbø - agreed to photograph this nastily of Michaela Stark. However, now, after the initial shock and almost two months of time to properly process everything in my head, I consider what Sølve Sundsbø did literally is a masterpiece in relation to this TRAVESTY of Lea Colombo that Vogue Russia has agreed to publish! :furious:

I quite like the Hans Bellmer meets Araki vibes from the cover story. It's a bit disturbing but in a great way, and pretty ballsy stuff from a Vogue issue.

That main story has more artistic value than the ‘yaaas queen so empowered’ story with zero focus or substance that i-D tried to do. Just.. integrate some though, criticism and put your instagram obsession on hold for a sec and you might get to an interesting place. It’s really not that hard.
