Vogue World: London - Live Fashion Event 2023

Love Caroline Trentini with all my heart but what in Junya Watanabe reject hell is she wearing?

All this shebang for 136K views... You gotta laugh.

For comparison with recent performance: Inside Emma Watson's Prada Backpack (9/14) 547K views, Ariana Grande's Skin Care Routine (9/12) 2.6M views, Kate Winslet Talks Ice Baths (9/11) 225K views...

No one cares about the Vogue brand.

I’m sorry but I didn’t get that event…
The Vogue World show in NYC felt like a true celebration, held in a street with a feeling of inclusivity (I hate the word but couldn’t find better) even if it was still elitist.

This felt totally elitist and in the end a bit irrelevant because the end goal is to project that idea of inclusivity. It felt like a music-hall stuff with some clothes thrown around and the supermodels things is getting a bit tired even if they looked beautiful.

And it’s weird, I feel like for a city like London, fashion events always feels very uptight and formal…when their fashion scene is for the most part the opposite.

So its like CR annual event?!
You are talking about the Amfar show during Cannes film festival?
It’s just Carine curating a show for clothes to be auctioned for AMFAR.

Inclusivity should also include the ordinary working class.

I didn't watch a single bit of it personally, but I don't think the goal was ever about how many people watch the livestream on YouTube (I think that's the 136k view count you're referencing?)

Similar to the Met Gala, Vogue as a global brand uses these events as content factories. While 136k people may have watched the livestream, millions more will experience the content via Instagram posts and stories, TikTok, the social media of celebrities who attended or were featured, and even the dozen or so individual YouTube videos that Vogue will no doubt produce in reference to the event ("getting ready for" type of stuff) so that's the real value of these events. It's all about creating content, and the Vogue brand is still strong enough to draw most celebrities. I'm sure they were able to mine hours of video content and countless photos to be shared among individual Vogue accounts and websites. Everything is entertainment, everything is a spectacle, and everything is content. I'm sure these will only continue and behind-the-scenes they're probably smugly congratulating themselves on what they perceive as a show-stopper of an event and a huge success.

That being said, sometimes the decision makers are either out of touch or simply don't care and it becomes sort of just them assembling their personal favs. James Cordon, FKA Twigs, Sienna Miller, etc. aren't really the ideal celebrities to draw attention at the moment if you're talking global engagement online.

Of course, and thank goodness they produce content off these events because that's the only way for them to get some ROI. My point was about the attractiveness of the Vogue brand itself that is underperforming according to data. Such a celebrity-driven event should've brought in a large amount of viewers, and it did not. Not an opinion, just an observation based on data. Now what's performing the best is actor Taylor Z. Perez getting ready in his hotel room haha

I do very much agree that the guest selection felt more "friends of Vogue" than "relevant and ideal for engagement" perhaps with a couple of exceptions. But I can't say I'm surprised :tearsofjoy:

From this week's Popbitch email:

>> Fashionably late <<
Not quite model behaviour

The V&A has just announced their plans for a Naomi Campbell retrospective. Let's hope museum bosses haven't planned an extravagant opening party that relies too heavily on her involvement.

Organisers of that recent Vogue World event fell into that trap. With Naomi, Christy, Linda and Cindy on the Vogue UK cover that month, the stage had been set for a triumphant show-stopping live finalé featuring the four supermodels.

Sadly, Naomi's inability to turn up on time for rehearsals at any point meant all the grand ideas had to be scaled back in favour of... walking.

Much to the annoyance of the three who had turned up.

This was the most embarrassing fashion related travesty i’ve ever seen. CRINGE CENTRAL!!!!
