After a couple of winters seeing chunky knits in everything from sweaters, skirts, collars and shawls, Parisian houses and a few New Yorkers seemed to have moved on and embraced the delicacy of thin veils of yarn as the ultimate technique for the upcoming season. :heart:

I like this in combination with the fragile, black, gothic. Mostly, I'll stick with the oversized knit :ninja:

I happen to love thin, gauzy knitwear. It's very sexy, the way that whatever is being worn underneath (or in some cases what isn't being worn underneath) can poke through. Also, it seems like there are many more variations on it, whether it's cobwebby like at Rodarte and Giles or more precise and even like that dress at McQueen, you get some interesting textures.

And that Donna Karan tunic/top is beyond beautiful...ravaged chic.

this is beautiful spotting indeed mullet!. you never cease to amaze me. :wub:
the first image is really haunting...:heart: i love the knits at dries and giles {although just personally i think the stockings are total overload :shock:}...and i agree with spike that the donna karan piece is so beautifully done...:o the colours too..gorgeous.
....i really like the idea of the webbed knit with something even silkier, like the way it is combined at donna karan and the last giles look you posted...it seems to pair up really beautifully :heart:

yes, good trend spotting mullet! I find though that with fashion where it is currently, everything is in style. People wear chunky sweaters, some wear thing gauzy ones. The problem with these is that they are better for fall than they are for winter. People can't just swan around in a deconstructed sweater that is artfully falling apart when it's -30 out. Or maybe some can, but I can't!

im curious if and how the high street stores will pick that up

Amazing trendspotting Mullet:heart::heart:

This is so not really my style but the example that shoes how I would wear this is the dries..

it gives a great contrast when it's not in big doses and combined with a really solid piece (of plain fabric and no prints) it can come out wonderfully, like at dries with the tailored Jacket and the Pants

glad you guys like it. and I totally agree with Meg about this trend being almost exclusively for Fall or the beginnings of Spring.. although ripped knits can look wonderful as a layer as Junya Watanabe and Ann D have proved in previous seasons..

Although the thread says F/W 08.09, I think it would be unfair not to post Junya Watanabe's F/W 06.07 take on this as he certainly helped to kick this off as a trend and set great examples of layers, techniques and the aggressiveness we'd hardly expect from such soft material. :p
