WELCOME to the History of Style : a remembrance of things past sub-forum!

Please make sure that threads/posts/pictures you post are 'historic', which in this sub forum means 10 years old or older.
Only exception to this rule is threads dealing with the entire work of a deceased designer.

We are implementing the 10 year rule to help distinguish the forum from Trend Spotting (revival of past styles) and Designers & Collections (Newer collections)

If you are unsure whether your post/thread belongs in the History of Style sub forum, please ask a moderator first.
Also, if you want to start a thread you feel questionable about, please ask first. Let us know if there are threads we have missed that are more appropriate over here rather than in other parts of tfs.

THREAD TITLE STRUCTURE

Much like Designers & Collections (Season - year - city)
History of Style has it's own thread title structure

Threads must start with 4 digits millennium / century / decade / year

The reason behind this is twofold.
To facilitate the possibility of doing decade/year searches (tfs search machine does not render results for words less that 4 characters) as well as this will hopefully help those that do not have English as their primary language and thus might not be very familiar with the English term for the style/item/period.

Threads with the focus on a decade should be listed: 1960's
Threads focusing on the entire body of work of a deceased designer should list the year of birth - year of death: 1902-1989

You might be unsure of what year to put, in which case you can simply add 0000 in the beginning of the thread title or a general time frame/s, since those sometimes are as close as you can get.

POSTING IMAGES IN SUB FORUM

As always please make sure to post proper credits.
Whenever possible:
add the date of the image (4 digits are search friendly)
add the name of the photographer/illustrator etc

Pictures from a new collection that is influenced by a decade/style should not be posted in the History of Style sub forum.
Rather it should be posted in a relevant Trend Spotting thread.
A picture posted in a thread on 1950's - The New Look Dior should be a picture taken/illustration made in the 1950', not 1980's or 2006..
In other words historic pictures go in the new sub forum, new pictures go in Trend Spotting.

Enjoy!

Hanne
