Hye Park - how about a very thin, long sleeved, black turtleneck? That can sometimes look cool with dresses.

I have a really pretty thin strapped dress, but whenever I wear it I always feel so sl*tty because a lot of flesh around the chest and arm region is exposed :( Anyone have any good suggestions to solve the problem? P.S. I've already tried it with a short sleeved blouse and a long sleeved bloused on underneath, but it just looked naff.....

can't you just wear a cute cardigan with the sleeves pushed up?...
...

sorry idapompida...
i would wear that skirt in a more casual way...with a striped top...
and red flats...
no ideas for dressy really...:ermm:...

HPL, how about a little shrug/bolero sweater? There are quite a few around for the holidays, probably for those of us who feel exactly as you do ^_^ ;)

Ida, maybe you could pick up on the silver of the D-rings, do kind of an upscale sailor look ... For example, a horizontal silver and navy striped knit top & silver shoes ...

sorry for the bad quality of the photo and the mess behind me. Is this an ok combination to wear? I don't have much to work with. It is a navy blue silk skirt, brown opaque tights and brown strappy sandals (for a jazz lounge?), am planning to wear this with a sleeveless flowy top...

i bought these pumps and i want to wear them in wintertime with black opaques

what are the other suggestions?

yasmin: brown and navy arent a very harmonious combination IMO. perhaps you could wear the skirt without stockings, and black stilletos or pumps?

if you did want to wear stockings, i think black opaques would be a much better option. :)

kitty-yo: jeans and pumps are a great combo too! or perhaps a highwaisted pencil skirt for a totally different look :)

copper: yeah I don't really love the combination myself, but I thought black and navy were an even more disliked combo?

burnished gold pointy flats ... I was thinking about victorian laceups or button detail ones, but I am not sure how much use I'd get out of them.
i think the gold flats sound pretty good...
and i agree with ta-ta that a victorian style or 'granny' boot is a wardrobe classic...you will have them for years if you get the right ones..

sorry though-can't see the pic you posted....

Yasmin, I think it's fine ... sometimes you gotta go with what ya got ... AND ... I actually really like navy and brown together. For example, picture a navy knit dress cinched with a brown croc belt ... it can be very nice (and sophisticated). I feel like it would be better, though, if your tights were navy. But if that's not an option, I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from hearing some great jazz and having a ball B)

As for black & navy, I keep hearing the French are big fans ... I have to admit, I've never figured that one out ... but neither has anyone else here in big hair land ...

Perhaps someone could be so kind as to post some pix of this done well ...

Thanks :) I'm going to go look for some navy opaque tights tomorrow, but I don't have any navy shoes! (I'm also going to get opaque black tights to wear with black shoes, would that be better?)

^ I would try the navy skirt & tights with the brown shoes, Yasmin ... you might have a winner ;)

Thanks, I will :) I can also choose between brown super strappy sandals (the ones in the photo, but they look better IRL), or brown very simple sandals (just a band over the toes, so they do that "flipping" thing...too "warm weather"?).

Black and navy together is usually a no-no,but it is actually a very "hot" combo this season...

mmm I love black and navy! It's so refreshing to see again but I do think for this to be done well the navy has to be quite rich. If the colors are quite flat, then it doesn't hold together as well imo

help :D

ok, I have a straight above the knee cream skirt with an overlay of cream lace and beading.

other than cream head-to-toe, what can I wear with this. Black doesn't look good for some reason .

any ideas?

navy? brown? any sort of shade of brown or blue I think will look good. purple/pink....

^ Agreed. It looks really nice against the purple background in the photo you posted actually. I would explore that route personally ;)

I'm a big fan of navy & black at the moment too! As well as raisin & black. Something about dark rich shades together that aren't exactly the same is really interesting to me...

Yeah, I would go with the heavier shoes in the picture for November and with tights :flower:
