Lets see if we can shed some light on what happened to some designers' from yesteryear..Did they just voluntarily resign from the industry? Too many poor management decisions? Or just fail to keep up w/ the times?

Josephus Thimister's the creative director of Charles Jourdan in Paris. Thierry Mugler went broke a million times and sold his company. The Mugler menswear is nowadays designed by Thomas Engelhart, the women's collection folded. The scandalous death of Montana's wife Wallis Franken marked the end of his career, though the house had done quite miserably for a long time. I think he's still doing some dodgy stuff under the label Montana Blu and the French department stores sell tacky Montana shirts and accessories for men.

Great thread. The unspoken truth is that your only as good as your last collection, so there are plenty of casualties in this merciless business. More than a few have died penniless. Charles James anyone? Enough to dissuade many a zealous fashion student. Not as glamorous as one would think, but passion usually over rides most worries.
Special mention to the true innovators like MARC AUDIBET (of Prada, Hermes, and uh, lycra etc fame) who really make history behind the scenes.

Jared Gold? I remember his work from a few years ago. Probably went bankrupt or had financial struggles like so many young designers are these days. Dunno,about Matt Damhave from IoC.
