Which Designer Designs for Which House

^ Phoebe Philo is a previous head of Chloe; she's the head designer for Celine now.

Also didn't Yves Saint Laurent become head designer of Christian Dior right after Dior died? Obviously there a huge time gap between Dior and Galliano...

im not sure if it was right after, but yes he succeeded the one and only Christian Dior, and beat out a young Karl Lagerfeld for the position.

^Well to be fair, Karl wasn't in the running, as Yves worked as an assistant there during Dior's lifetime. So it wasn't an open competition or anything like that in this case.

This is so late in coming, but I thought it important to know our fashion history.

The house of DIOR was headed by Christian Dior himself from 1946 through 1957. That's when it was gifted to Yves Saint Laurent who was the creative leader until 1960. It was then offered to and accepted by Marc Bohan who began with the Summer collection of 1961. He remained head of the house until 1989 (a long run). Then on to Gianfranco Ferre who was already an established designer with his own fragrance, fur collection, etc. He remained until 1996 when the flamboyant, talented John Galliano was snatched from LVMH's own Givenchy to take the wheel.
We've been gleefully spinning ever since....

agee you missed

Yves Saint Laurent: Stefano Pilati (Previous head designers: Tom Ford)
Did Alexander McQueen design for YSL btw? I remember him rejecting the position.

No, Alexander McQueen didn't design for YSL! Before Tom Ford's stage the creative director of the prêt-à-porter line was Alber Elbaz, selected by YSL himself. ^_^
