more and more, I'm noticing real people behind the collection is not the person I think.....
my skills in designers name isn't great.... I mostly know the big names.... and then just like or not a label......
+ nowadays, most of the label have a big name and then some little hands who REALLY produce the collection....
i.e : X gives the main idea, draws quickly some stuff and little hands give their results..... and then X chooses what's the best....
that's basically how i understand fashion nowadays....

So basically, here is just a thread to have the name under our eyes when we check a collection....
and maybe this could be important, as more and more the Pre and Cruise collections are growing and I really doubt the main designers are behind these collections.....
+ we all know names are changing alllll the time....designers moving from a label to another.... look at Chloé, Celine etc.

I don't know if this thread could exist.... and maybe it does even exist already.... but found nothing....

We could pinned this thread.... non? I'm not a moderator so I have no decision upon this point....
but a list with most of the labels - i don't know if we can do a list with everyone.... that's almost impossible.... but .....

let's start.....

I hope you know what I mean....
for instance, I learnt today onto tfs who really did Versace menswear eventhough Donatella is still closing the show....

Great idea.

Too many times I've had to scour google results for designer at the helm of such-and-such a house.

It happens quite often with menswear the designers have nothing to do with designing the collection

For example, Paul Helbers is designing all the men's wear for Louis Vuitton, yet Marc Jacobs takes the bow at the end of every fashion show. Same with Lucas Ossendrijver for Lanvin and many, many more.

OMFG....
I could imagine for Louis Vuitton....
but Lanvin?????
omg.... I really thought it was Alber Elbaz who did Lanvin menswear as well....

I knew this thread would be cool.....
auto-satisfaction...

i am not sure if i got this right... but Stefano Pilati for prada (before moving to saint laurent) would be an example non? or Cristina Ortiz (now at brioni woman) at prada before too...

what's difficult about this list, is that the names are often known after they leave this "behind-the-scenes" job, when they get to the top...

(i know designer behind fendi men is also a woman but i never remember her name)

It's Silvia Venturini Fendi, she's also responsible for the women's shoes & bags at Fendi. Fendi has been very open to the press about her designing some lines.

is alexandre really doing versace? i always assumed that was mere rumour.

anyway,it is quite egocentric. have the guy that didn't do much take your bow and the immediate praise....i would find that extremely unsavoury. i think it's one thing when you're creative director and one's team does most if not all the work of that singular collection(which i have a thing about in itself ),but to have that on the opposite side when another appointed designer is actually designing it,is incredibly and deeply dishonest.

does mcqueen design all of his collections,i wonder....men's and mcq???

I really don't like the idea of someone taking the bow for someone else's work. I don't see how some of the designers could take the recognition knowing they really did not have much of a hand in the creative process.

^ yes Cristina will do Ferragamo womens ready-to-wear now ^_^ I think FW0809 will be her first season

And I'm fairly sure Alexander McQueen actually does design his own menswear, not so sure about McQ though

^ Ortiz was actually the head designer (not sure if her title was design director or creative director) at Lanvin before Elbaz, so she got recognition for that.

^oh ok...
i'm not sure to remember her collections at Lanvin, though....

we'll need a list....a list....
edit : this was off-topic....

new mens wear designer at Valentino : Ferruccio Pozzoni (previously head designer at Brioni)

I read somewhere ( I cant remember and nows it bugging me:doh:) on the mens collection topic Marc said he felt a bit guilty about credit for that wasnt his and that maybe next season he would do the bow with Paul Helbers.

McQ is done by a company called Como Designs formerly called Club 21 (as in the retail store) which also does Armani Exchange, DKNY Jeans(Europe and Asia), Luella Bartley Jeans, and Mulberry.
