Carine Roitfeld at Vogue Paris:

JJB on Carine: 'Carine demonstrated our aesthetic differences by showing me her apartment. “You have so many things, you must see how I live.”

Her nothing was infinite square meters of fine parquet overlooking the Esplanade des Invalides, the most expensive real estate in Paris. She took me around the way a child shows off her room, proud that there was nothing to see. No books in the living room, nothing on the tables, nothing in the kitchen. Everything in her apartment was behind closed doors.

“I don’t like mess, it’s confusing. I have only a few things,” she said.

Fashion was her element, which made her immune to the lure of beautiful things. That was her strength.'

Marine Serre's studio:

“This space is not exactly what I wanted, it’s too posh and Haussmannian,” Serre says of her light-filled headquarters, which feature parquet flooring and florid ceiling moldings. “I wanted to go in the industrial area of Pantin and get something much bigger.” Plus, she adds, she and the team are working past midnight most nights, and the neighbors have been complaining. “These old floorboards are noisy, but they’re nice about it,” she says.

Serre’s face, framed by a tousled pixie cut, flushes with pride as she looks about: the studio is a hive of activity. Bodies, workbenches and machinery are crammed into four rooms that flow into one another. Serre and her boyfriend, Pepijn van Eeden, who serves as the brand’s general manager, share the corner office; their desks are at opposite ends, their backs turned to one another. A few plants are placed haphazardly about. To the side, a rack overflows with a jumble of loudly printed garments, most of them vintage or found in Moroccan souks.

Thank you for posting all of these. Very interesting
What struck me the most if how different Frida's and Alessandro's offices are. Alessandro's is so cold and austere

Right? Despite all the trimmings! As expected, it looks like a moneyed hipster's wet dream. For the more threadbare hipsters who ononly care about wearing the latest fashion and living in the 'right' part of town, there's Marine Serre's studio. Surely that's not a plastic plant pot, with a £1 plant tower?? How cheap!

Sies Marjan's showroom is very generic in terms of decor, but I do like the fact that it is a transparent wall which divides the consultation room and the atelier. His office however..... Perfect breeding ground for filth. I bet he eats in his office.

So many of these office spaces really give you an idea of the personality! Chitose Abe's office is not to my taste at all, but it looks very cosy and there's some character. Quite like Fabien's because at least it's minimalist with a twist, unlike Joerg's.

Haha yeah, Alessandro's is definitely hipster. I would hate to work in his office but I wouldn't mind being in his position
Marine Serre ... Where to start ? If she really wanted to be in Pantin, she could be. Typically what we call "gauche caviar' in France.

I think my favorite office is Alexandra Shulman's. I like the minimalism of Baron's also. Like you said each office really evokes what the person is like or their style, e.g. DVF's office is the perfect example

A Very Close Look at Karl Lagerfeld’s Desk

From Constructivist paintings to, yes, Choupette, Vanity Fair examines the tools and trinkets on the desk of Chanel and Fendi’s creative director.

Karl Lagerfeld needs no introduction. The designer’s trademark personal style is as well known as the designs he produces as creative director of fashion houses Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous label. More than six decades after he began his illustrious fashion career, Lagerfeld is as influential as ever. Herewith, the German-born icon opens the doors to his Paris office, a space he shares with his impeccably chic companion and muse—his cat, Choupette. Two pictures from the photographic project I did with Cassina—they asked me to shoot my favorite pieces from their collection. On the left is the Superleggera by Gio Ponti, and on the right the Zig-Zag chair by Rietveld.

I love my desk. It previously belonged to the famous French architect Michel Roux-Spitz. The red chairs are from the 30s and very comfortable. I wanted to give my office an Art Deco spirit to match the decorative woodwork and fireplace.

I designed this “KarlBox” for Faber-Castell. It’s full of colored pencils, pastels, and pens—this is the best tool to work with. I love this box; it’s a very luxurious, limited-edition object.
Choupette is always next to me. Here is my next project with Steiff—a Choupette teddy bear. I had this carpet done, inspired by Constructivist paintings. The colors are amazing.

The helicopter is a scale model of the one I interior-designed. There is also the famous Diet Coke bottle with my silhouette and a big doll called Mon Shu I created for my first collaboration with Shu Uemura. Shu Uemura eye shadows and little brushes are my favorite tools to color my sketches—I’ve used them for years.

Cup clingers of me and Choupette made by my Japanese friends Sogo & Seibu for the collection I made for them. You put it on your glass to avoid people drinking from yours. It’s very fashionable.
