    is anyone here into them??

I'm having some kind of weird obsession with them :p
I love the broken sounds of their music and their lyrics are a bit weird but mind-blowing and deep at the same time

my favorite songs are Suha, I luv the valley oh and Crack heart.

hmm, i dont know... I'd say they're a bit influenced by The Smiths and maybe the Cure...but then, i might be wrong  .

you gotta check them out, the easiest song to get into them is 'I Luv the Valley', cause it's more melodic and accesible...then, try with the rest :p .

Since you encouraged me to get the new Sonic Youth, I may take your lead again. I just read the customer's reviews on amazon.com and am intrigued to say the least. I got the impression it was faster and noisier than a Smiths or a Cure record though. Am I right? For some reason reading the reviews made me think of Primal Scream's album with "kill all hippies", is that even remotely close?

hmm.. I don't know, they don't remind me that much of Primal Scream but then, I'm not a big Primal Scream fan, I haven't dedicated them enough time to know their music and compare it with anything else :ninja: .

As I said before, I Luv The Valley is a good song to get into then cause I first listened to Fabulous Muscles (mama black widow) and I thought it was pretty weird and I didn't like it, then I re-discovered them months later with The Valley and I fell in love with them.

Other great songs are Suha, Crank Heart, Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl and Ceremony (Joy Division cover) :flower:

mmm yes, i know a lot of people who don't get into them but i think they are good. very humble, after shows (i don't know if it's the same very where else since i am from oakland where they started) they just sit around with everyone else, not pretentious at all.

well, they were very nice at che cafe in san diego, both times i saw them they were absolutely lovely.
i think it's funny how fans claim them to be from Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle or San Diego..:D
    I'd go with Seattle.

I just catched myself having a sort of obsession with them too, I even wrote something about it on my LJ which shows how important it is, since I only write interesting stuff. Ahem, ok not true. But Xiu Xiu certainly has an impact on me, they're little geniouses who know how to use their talents. I love how dramatic their lyrics are most of the time

My mom wholeheartedly hates it, which makes me appreciate it even more :D

hahaha!..my mom doesnt care about them, she just inmitates the 'lalala' of i luv the valley..which is annoying enough:doh:

isnt it weird that everyone's got a particular obsession with I Luv The Valley?..like, you can apply it to any moment and it makes sense..it's such a beautiful song..along with Suha..but suha isnt nearly as powerful i think:p
