This collection was presented at On|Off during London Fashion Week. The two key elements were the debut of an idea in dress construction where you essentially take a number of long strips of fabric, usually 4, plait a section of it and drape and stitch the remaining fabric together. The other element is a working against the body shape, be it in the form of the piece or by using elastic.

The collection is titled Haringey in recognition to unemployed people on a Haringey (Borough in North London) Council return to work scheme who, although did not have classic tailoring skills, had the plaiting and hand sewing skills to create these pieces. It was a humbling and uplifting experience to work alongside a group of people who were in their late thirties/ early forties, many of them long term unemployed.

Here are some pieces. Rest of collection at Yan To

    Thank you so much.

I have had no formal training. I previous worked in local newspaper advertising and in a small local advertising agency. My experience with fashion previously was purely as someone who spent money buying high end fashion, mens and womens. I decided last June to start designing and these are the results of my first full collection.

The principals I design to are innovation, integrity and sexiness. My lack of training allows me to perhaps look at things in a slightly different way, hence my plaiting technique for dress construction which I believe has not been done before. I am also working on another new technique for SS11. Regarding integrity, I am not interested in following trends. I have a clear vision which I follow, regardless of what is in fashion. Regarding sexiness, I believe that beautiful clothes should also be sexy clothes.

Yes it was my first season. Might do a catwalk presentation in September as I am working on an idea which will be amazing on the catwalk.
