Yma Sumac, noted peruvian soprano, passed away on November 1st 2008, presumably 86 years old.

She is one of the most known names in Exotica Music, which undoubtedly can be ascribed to her one of a kind voice (her range was well over 4 octaves), her stage presence and style.

I'm amazed too Scott..I guess if she had died in the 90s at the height of lounge music her death would have gotten a lot of attention..

I love her. I love the exotica/ mambo era of music - very kitchy and fun. But I also love her darker side, like the song "Chuncho."

Interesting that Riccardo Tisci finds her so inspiring.

queen of exotica! she got the best voice in the whole world, she was a beautiful woman and her songs are orgasmic my favorites are: Chuncho, Tayta Inti and Magenta Mountain. Rest in peace Yma!

Miracles is my favorite album!
