These days I hate this time of the year and these lists because I'm reminded of how I'm not dedicating enough time for new releases anymore.. I get too hung up on records, and can play the same thing nonstop for longer than a year :ninja:. I feel like if something makes the list it's only because it's bearable for cooking and while working on a paper . Some years ago most stuff I listened to wasn't that anythingelse-friendly, almost 3 am stuff only.. still not 100% comfortable with the change.

Hopefully once I get a break I'll be able to dive comfortably into Patti's new album, and Cat Power's!, Santigold's new stuff sounded pretty good live and I loved the first single.. ah.

Confess by Twin Shadow
Tempest by Bob Dylan
Visions by Grimes
Tramp by Sharon Van Etten
Nootropics by Lower Dens
Unapologetic by Rihanna
Mr Impossible by Black Dice
Victory by Child Actor
Coexist by The XX *although I can't listen to this from start to finish. It gets a little too marriage crisis sometimes.
Mondo by Electric Guest *blah if the album's the first impression but delicious live, pretty much summed up the summer for me..

Ah, glad to see it on your list! I think I only left it out because there's a point where I just want it to stop (like the XX record, but the moment of intolerance comes faster *old*).

LB, I was 99% sure you'd add some Chris55ybaby here!

 but his album is only coming around my birthday! and the last record from Girls is from 2011!

Duh .. what did people do some weeks ago though (you included!), pre-ordered? crazy! I thought everyone had actually got it.

btw, just to add, there were some wonderful EP's that were out this year such as we are on fire by cocorosie and nick cave has a beautiful new one out in prep for a new bad seeds album in february. and the new atoms for peace singles just released--default & what the eyeballs did.

^Ah, Japandroids! Very good choice ScarlettLover, plus you're right, it's a great way to see what one might have missed this year.

I've gone days with that on repeat all the way through, ha! Saltkin was on repeat-one for way too long. My neighbors might hate me, but at least they listen to good music too.

Sharon van Etten - Tramp

Wye Oak - Civilian (hmm, this maybe came out 2011 but whatever)
Jack White - Blunderbuss
Lana Del Rey - Born To Die
Radiohead - The King of Limbs (yeah it came out last year but I'm really late on this stuff. Bought it this year, listened to it loads, loved it.)
My two faves:
First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar
Grizzly Bear - Shields

Maybe Shields just edges it. Love this record. So many amazingly constructed songs. I like the way they seem to evolve as you listen. And First Aid Kit I've been a huge fan of since seeing them live and meeting them back in Feb. Their voices combine so beautifully. I'm sure they will go on to even great recognition.

Many albums I've not listened to yet that I really want to hear: Bat For Lashes, Cat Power, Crystal Castles, Beach House... Will find the time eventually. Love seeing everyone else's lists - it gives inspiration!

1. Deftones - Koi No Yokan
