I have never had a little black dress. It's been years since I had a navy blazer, and I'm not sure I've ever had a white button-down. I have never had white jeans, and I haven't owned a swimsuit since childhood (I don't swim, despite all the swimming lessons).

But here's what is essential for me ...

1. Black pants
2. Black pencil skirt
3. White Ts
4. Trench coat
5. Denim trousers
6. Ballet flats in black and a variety of colors
7. Colored silk blouses
8. Cardigans
9. Red shoes
10. Black jeans

What about you?

Great idea for a thread, Ta-ta.

Quickly thinking about my wardrobe, my essientials must be:

- Black jeans
- Stripe l/s tee(s)
- Black, short boots
- A nice quality bag
- Black dresses
- Black skirt
- Fitted sweaters
- Basic tank tops and t-shirts
- Scarves - heavy woolen ones and lighter ones for SS.
- Little jackets - bouclé, leather.

1. Black crew tee
2. Black jeans
3. Tailored black trousers
4. Black cashmere sweaters
5. Black leather motorcyle jacket (though I haven't found the perfect one)
6. White button up shirt (short sleeve and long)
7. Tailored black shorts
8. Black merino sweater
9. Black Sweatshirts
10. Black shoes

This is a lot tougher than I thought. I mean, all my clothes are must haves to me:lol:

Just to be clear, these are my 10 personal favourite item/categories, but if I only got to have 10 items in my wardrobe, I would choose something different due to practical reasons...

1) Classic Blazer
2) Porselli ballet flats
3) Crewneck sweaters
4) Cashmere turtleneck
5) Black/white Bretons
6) Herringbone/tweed coat
7) Crewneck tees
8) Grey skinnyjeans
9) Vintage printed mens scarf
10) High quality leather bag

No one has said underwear :o

JK

I will say, though, that good foundation garments do make a world of difference. Maybe not everyone needs them, but when you do ... a must-have for sure

^I would rather have jeans than knickers, and I would rather have a sweater than a bra:wink:

I think my must-haves are less than 10:smile:lol::mellow:), the rest changes dramatically depending on where I am living, or what I'm up to that year.

1. earrings (preferably longish) and silver watch. Three items but I see them as one unit. I feel really miserable when I leave without them, which has happened just once I think.
2. long gray scarf (same as above- I was so bummed when I abandoned my previous one somewhere- until I got a better one)
3. black jeans
4. black tee
5. sunglasses
6. my bag of choice for the year (s)
7. sneakers or sandals (I stick to one for a long time and then switch- hard to describe, I really don't like shoes but I recognise the important of feet, and walking a lot )

^ That's true, I feel the same about earrings and watch. I usually wear a ring as well, but I'm not naked without it.

The essentials...

  • Grey jeans
  • Grey crewneck sweater
  • Navy cardigan
  • Basic colored t-shirts (crewneck, blue, grey, white, green).
  • Sunglasses
  • Watch
  • Tan leather jacket
  • Big scarf
  • Colored sneakers
  • Beige chinos

This has been been the foundation of my wardrobe the last few years.

1. black leather motorcycle jacket
2. dark levi's 510 denim (skinny fit)
3. black or grey hoodies
4. black leather boots
5. black or grey crewneck sweaters
6. backpack
7. onitsuka tigers
8. black v-neck shirts
9. my prescription ray ban clubmaster sunglasses for outdoors / my masunaga black framed glasses
10. plaid shirts in a variety of colors (although i'm phasing this out)

i'm going through a severe dark period in my wardrobe for years now, so this will probably be the norm.

My wardrobe essentials have changed quite a lot in recent 3-5 years, I rarely wore trousers back then (just in the coldest of Winter when tights were not warm enough) and now is the other way round, I basically live in them. Not sure how I feel about my style evolving from girly/feminine to business casual (roughly described, that is), but with the different period of life it just came naturally. I would say I am definitely dressing more formal and less "sexy" now, but I still consistently go either overdressed or casual, depending on my mood.

These would be the items I can't imagine my wadrobe without (in random order:(
  1. black tailored trousers (textile - wool or leather)
  2. breton striped top/sweater
  3. black leather jacket
  4. black wool coat / trenchcoat
  5. quality black leather bag with gold hardware
  6. smart collared top/shirt
  7. black fitted dress
  8. black brogues
  9. gold watch, ring & bracelet
  10. sunglasses

Great point about underwear. A good bra and panty (I hate thongs, but wear only when necessary) are a must for me.

Outside of that my top 10 must haves are:

3. Black ballet flats.
4. Black leather jacket.
5. A good black bag.
6. White button down shirt.
7. A little black dress
8. Black trench coat.
9. Black sunglasses.
10. Hoop earrings.

...I wear all black almost everyday.
