When you cross reference Tom Ford's Gucci to Tom Ford's YSL - you truly see Tom's aesthetic for what would be his own namesake line. It's interest to examine the dark sexy cool approach but then to adapt Gucci signatures and then YSL signatures. An interesting time, for sure- Tom a hands-down/hands up genius. But looking back it felt too closely similar. It would've been nice to see someone else take YSL, instead of the then Gucci Group, now Kering; bet on Tom to do for YSL what he did for Gucci. It spread Tom too thin, I feel. Great times, but not exactly replicative of his success at Gucci.
