Yves Saint Laurent S/S 09 Paris

I saw this and all I could think of its demi couture ... its really good, tho ...

I think that everyone can find at least one piece from this collection, which can be added to her wardrobe and to wear over and over again ...

I love the red sequined number

Did anyone else find the color palette hideous?

Black with murky green and maroon??? YUCK. I could not THINK of a worse combination!! :ninja:

:yuk: The shoes remind me of jellies. Awful.

But I love that the outfits are still well constructed. The forms and shapes are always inspiring.

oh wow! i have questions on that?

how was tom's saint laurent any "finesse" at all? i always thought it was rather sl*tty fleshandnipples-showy girls on the catwalk for most of the shows.

pilati is not known for really doing oversize blazers i'd say... ss08 and fw07 were quite big (specially the former) but i dont think the rest of his work characterizes for that.

and then i dont get how the palette is similar to balenciaga's... who hasnt used neutrals in the last couple of seasons?
and the deep colours like the blood reds you mentioned have been very present everywhere all the way from lanvin to h&m

i don't wanna sound too harsh with all the questions and all, but i have the feeling people try to find "mistakes" all the time in Pilati's work and dont really seem to try to enjoy it, which is too bad.
it's definitely his best season, but he didnt go totally off, no?
i think the house needed a more calm collection after the last 2-3 (beginning with the infamous flower-carpet show, then the strong graphic and structured winter, then the oversized summer 08 and then this winter which was in my opinion his most "edgy" in terms of presentation and proposition of structure)
it's good to see some relaxed easy to wear looks every once in a while

Look at balenciagas fall 2008 collection the same blood red, greens and neutrals and the same style of skirts except here its more dowdy and grandma like.
Like it or not , Tom Ford made YSL more exciting and have more buzz. Tom Fords woman maybe too powerful and sexy for you but IMO she was more exciting , difference between Tom's woman and Pilatis is , Tom's woman was getting some every night and Pilati's woman hasnt got any in 5 years ,she is sexually sepressed ,while Tom Fords brand of sexuality was shocking , at least it was exciting . If Pilati thinks you can garner some sexuality by wearing stilletoes he lost the point , its suppose to be in the clothes, which is ironic YSL always had a strong undercurrent of sex.

The thing about Tom Ford for YSL is that he understood the sexual glamour that Yves mastered. It is undeniable that it was a major part of his legacy, and I don't understand why Pilati refuses to acknowledge that. The cage shoes are a valid idea, but the heel is not high enough to justify the inspiration.

Pilati needs to inject some humor and cheekiness into the brand soon, or I'm afraid YSL is dead again. If anything, Monsieur Saint Laurent understood irony and excess, and Pilati's vision does not match that anymore. His first few collections were pretty great, with the egg-shaped skirts, victorian crosses, leopard belts, and chiffon-ruffled dresses. He is much better when he piles it on.

Exactly.

I used to be Pilati's number one fan...his first few collection for YSL are still some of my favorite collections, period. His SS 05-FW 07 period was SO great...and SO YSL. They were perfect combinations of sex, Parisian chic, frivolity, sophistication...all rolled up into a fabulous amount of ruffles and everything was perfect for an independent, strong, confidant woman.

However, since SS 08...I feel like Stefano is trying to remove all sexuality, lightness and irony from his collections...no doubt to find "purity" or something equally esoteric... I just don't get it.

^^^ agree!!

But after Fall 2007, I don't think he could out-do himself! It was too brilliant and too YSL to top.

I think he's struggling with this collection and you can tell he feels pressure now to live up to expectations that are impossible. And with the death of Saint-Laurent - the pressure is too much.

I want to start my comment by saying that I do like this collection. A lot.

but looking at the last couple seasons, Pilati was taking such a huge step forward for himself and YSL. This collection is so YSL under YSL and Pilati's early collections for the brand, it almost feels like a step backward.

It's beautiful and I love it, it is just odd in that way. I love the cage shoes though. I never knew I was missing that style shoe in my life before, but seeing this I know know I need them in my life. alas, it will never happen.

I wonder if he's nervous about really tapping into the sexual side of Saint Laurent because not only will he be compared to Yves himself, he'll inevitably be compared to Ford who was nothing if not good at doing sexy. Maybe he feels he can't live up, so that's why, when he does start to crack the icy surface and delve into the eroticism of YSL, he pulls back.

oh my god, pilati, i love you! i was afraid i'd be disappointed because last season's collection was SO absurdly gorgeous, but this is really beautiful. not better, but definitely not a disappointment. the alaia-esque shoes are to DIE for.

this collection is obviously SAFE. pilati needs to push the envelope. he should get out of his comfort zone. i don't see anything new or innovative with this collection. we've seen all of these before...

but i think the hair was really nice though :)

wahhhhh now i cant wait for lanvin.... :(

very cute collection!!! love the hair! not a fan of the shoes.... they were kind of a turn off....

the color palette is blah, and i feel like ive seen this before.
although he is paying homage to YSL he's putting him to shame.

And the shoes...

MAJOR turn off...

It reminded me of the the gladiator sandals we've been seeing all over and over again.

A few things:

1. I like this collection, but it's not all that special. Considering the uncompromising conceptual implications of F/W 08, I'm disappointed that Pilati has backed down off his pulpit a bit here. Those vampiric robotrons were an ideal muse for contemporary YSL. Oh, and the black lips? A niche appeal, to be sure, but one that is highly in demand (look at sales of the Pur Black lipgloss). Anyway, this collection only connects to the most philistine aspects of F/W 08. A shame.
2. The shoes are amazing and probably the best thing about this collection. Pilati certainly has a flair for creating and fetishizing unconventional footwear.
3. Does YSL have to be sexy?
4. I see the Balenciaga references, too. They permeate the majority of the looks. I guess it's inevitable. I think Pilati sees YSL moving away from Tom Ford's viscera and towards Ghesquire's conceptualism. Although, he failed to ignite any philosophical fires with what he offers for S/S 09.
5. Tom Ford turns even the classiest of houses into purveyors high-end hooker apparel.

-_-

I was waiting all week for his show and this is a major turn off, seems so safe and almost boring to me; no sharp tailoring or new and different shapes, very blah concept and presentation, after last season incredible colors, coats, suits and shoes I was especting too much maybe, looking at his fall collection I realize that there's no allure in this one.

Oh and I don't want his work to became sexier we have a lots of brands that fill that position (I'm pointing to you Balmain:innocent:)
