Yves Saint Laurent . YSL Multimedia

Thanks for all the great photos, and the link to the foundation:flower:

Here's a dress YSL designed during his tenure at Dior (this one dates from fall 1960)

Oh, you make me want to buy a bottle of Cinema! I've had to stop wearing Opium during the day (too many people come up and sniff me).

That Lalanne website is exquisite. Metalwork is so underappreciated! The flacon, for some reason, reminds me of the beginning credits of Pierrot le Fou. Thanks taz, much karma for you!^_^

I adore Lalanne work, but the flacon is inspired by the work of 1950s Parisian sculptor Line Vautrin and known as the “poetess of metal”, she is famous for her sun shaped mirrors. check her site:

You're very welcome.

Your signature is one of my favorites about fashion, on par with:

Thanks for the pictures, tylw, and jennifer!

NYT article by Cathy Horyn about the difficult heritage of YSL. She's so pro-Lagerfeld, I take everything she writes with a grain of salt.

I just got the 80's redux of those famous thigh-high croc boots, but they are sooo tall! I look like a cross between a streetwalker and fly-fisherman. Someone talk me into wearing them, please!

(first photo from eBay of my boots, second from TFS thread of 60s YSL boot from his "Robin Hood" collection)

Duh, taz, I meant to write: "that Vautrin website is exquisite." Sorry for the error. I have a CDG Line Vautrin advert I will post for you soon!:flower:

those boots... WOW
that's all i can say! i LOVE the material and color!!! you absolutely HAVE to wear them!!!

i know, i know...i didn't think i had short legs, but these boots are supermodel length! what would you guys recommend? i'm at a loss since they only give me 3 inches of inseam room, so even short tunics will not work. maybe just leggings?

Here's how the boots were worn in the 80's, with a smoking suit...

I do remeber that outfit it is form 1994 fall / winter couture collection & it inspierd Terry the make-up artist at YSL -before Linda Cantelo- to create the '007' look that featuers Nadja, as an homage to the launche of the Golden Eye, the movie.

Taz, you are a wealth of knowledge!

The photo I posted had no caption, so I just assumed 80's. Found these photos on the YSL foundation website, from the 1994 A/W couture collection. I really still can't believe these boots were on eBay. Is there a difference between YSL RTW and Haute Couture shoes?

thanks tylw:blush:
you brought tears & memories with these pic.. I miss Yves days:heart:

well, as for the boots, I remeber when Yves closed his couture house, there was a YSL boutique to sell the haute couture accseories, & it was opened for a few monthes only.. so maybe these boots were from that boutique ?

sigh, i was too young to know YSL until the end of his career. i was in paris for the summer doing college research the year he closed shop. i should have used my scholarship money for a smoking suit!

the woman who sold the boots to me works for Balenciaga in New York, so maybe! i've just not seen that level of YSL on eBay, stuff i can locate in couture photos.

i am still fretting about their length...

you should be proud to have these couture boots tylw, you should enjoy your self & wear them..they are YSL couture!! you're so lucky

if i were in your 'boots', I'd use these rare pairs as 'crocdaile sculpture' to decorate my living room..they made history one day & should be kept forever .

Hi Taz, you are right, of course.

I will wear them, though they are in such pristine condition, I hesitate. The woman who sold them to me wrote back and told me they were from Saks Fifth Avenue. I can't believe she let them go for $250. She had listed them twice, and the highest bid was $150?!

^Wow! What a great deal! They're beautiful, but look very hard to wear! Good luck!

Here's another photo of the A/W 1963 boot. I am currently reading Alicia Drake's _The Beautiful Fall_ with visual aids from yslhautecouture.com, where I found this photo.

I think I will just need leggings and a short cape or tunic.

Thank you, ilaughead, for the word of encouragement!
