Sparkle-eyed actress-singer Zooey Deschanel reminds us a little of one of those ponytailed sweethearts who work at bakeries in small towns like the ones where we grew up. You know the girls, they call you "Sugar" when they pass a bear claw or a maple bar across the pastry case, and probably smell like cinnamon. So it's no surprise that we found the delicious poem "Cake," about a baker's daughter who falls for the wrong kind of boy, on Deschanel's charming website, Hello Giggles. The mouthwatering little piece was written by Kirsten Smith (the amazing screenwriter behind Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The House Bunny), and inspired by a now-defunct bakery in her hometown in Washington State. --Meghan Sutherland

CAKE
by Kirsten Smith

He comes in late to buy an eclair.
He claims to be
a physics student on sabbatical
but you're pretty sure
he's a hobo on holiday.
You are the baker's daughter.
He's the wrong kind of boy
for a cream-puff like you
but you love his eyes,
the color of pickles,
you love his hands,
which have never kneaded anything.
When you kiss, your head fills
with Xs and Ys, not teaspoons and half-cups.
You want him to cover your kitchen
with Newton's Second Law,
you want him to make every pie a love pie,
you want him to sneak inside your stove,
burn the gingerbread,
collapse the strudel,
change the cakes from something sweet
into slices of the forbidden--
tell-tale icing
on the lip of someone
who says they don't eat cake
and then secretly devours it whole.

Zooey Deschanel shows off her baby blues on the cover of Self magazine’s July 2011 issue, on newsstands Thursday (June 16) in New York and Los Angeles. Here’s what the 31-year-old actress had to share:

On getting to know yourself: “Most people spend too much time comparing themselves to others….Get to know yourself a little bit better. Stop and ask yourself a few questions, and think about you.”

On why she works out: “A lot of people work out to be skinny. That’s so boring, and it seems like a depressing goal for a modern woman. I work out to be healthy and because I like it. I do sports or classes, things that engage my mind. If you’re active, fitness will follow - and probably a good figure, too.”

On advice she’d give her former self: “If I could give my teenaged self any advice, it would be ‘Calm down!’ In fact, if I could relive one day of my life, it would be the worst day of seventh grade, just so I could appreciate how much better life is now.”

Zooey also joked with Self staffers that “if this acting thing doesn’t work out,” she could be a Snow White impersonator at Disneyland!

 I like seeing Zooey on so many covers for health magazines.

She sets a fabulous example.

And they always give her the most precious of dresses.
Thanks Jenna.

The dress is so cute. But I don't think the suede pumps go with it And I don't like her hair like this.Looks too messy. But she is cute as always.

I really love her dress but the look as a whole not a fan of. I think its her hairstyle that bothers me the most because it's so messy. I'd prefer if she had just worn it down instead rather then trying a messy bun type thing.
