Customisations

What have you done to customise your clothes?

My favorites are:-

- swapping buttons
- shortening skirts/coats
- dying stuff (although recently tried dying a lace top & it was a disaster - I used the dye you have to boil up in a big pan with loads of salt & my house stunk & i was nearly sick)
- dying shoes/boots with leather dye (always been quite good at this one - white spirit is the key)
- sewing sequins onto tops & jackets with invisible thread
- sewing lots of interesting buttons onto cardigans or jerseys
- sewing felt shapes onto doubled over scarves (good as presents)
- i recently cut up a long sleeved black top - to make a scoop neckline (not very succesful)

Would love to hear others experiences. :flower:

It's a shame I don't have the before picture on this on...
I was given a huge t-shirt with a very heavy metal print with a scull with glowing eyes :woot: and a lot of snake skeletons.

I got rid of the scull as fast as I could and then I cut a neckline in the same shape as the snakes. Then I made the back all black.

I sold this shirt and now I almost regret it... Almost

today I used my 'leather' needle on my sewing machine for the first time...
i altered a wide sash belt (took it in at the back)...
very pleased with the results...
this will do nicely until i can find that perfect belt or have one made...

heck- maybe i can make one myself at this point?!...
:woot:...

yay......

my brown marni booties are now black--- thanks to me and a can of shoe dye...
^_^...

yay...

My old art teacher gave me a dress that was hers in the 70s. It was very unflattering so I chopped and changed it to make it short, and it's very very 60s now.

Glass is still bit messy with glue, but will fix it soon

well done
sasuga captain

thank you , sir!

i did it again...
after years of being unable to find a pair of black riding boots that suited me, i took a can of spray dye to my brown ones...
they're on the deck drying now...

B)

took a black fabric belt off of one coat and added it to a camel cashmere coat i had...
looks much more modern now...
like DVN...

snipped out the old wool lining of a leather vest purchased some years ago in Amsterdam...
the whole thing is much lighter and cleaner now and ready to make a comeback...

:mohawk:

i was so excited to spray the boots that i didn't prep them with solution first...
so now the black has started to rub off in places and show the brown underneath...

it actually looks amazing...
very margiela...
:P

a good friend and tFS member (purechris) made me a red plaid wool scarf with a satin camo lining some time ago...
i decided that i wanted to make it even more punk...
so i threw it in the wash (no dryer) and then i twisted it into a ball to dry...
the result is a crinkled, cool (very cdg-looking) piece...

yattah!

I want to buy these boots solely to paint the heels and soles black.

My latest costumisation has been shortening this skirt by making a new waistband. I got a little carried away and therefore used a black elasticband since it was the only thing I had, but I am going to wear it with a top or belt covering it anyway.

^^that's a lovely eyelet fabric...
nice for summer...

i rescued a capped sleeve smock top from my friend's giveaway pile...
it's a really beautiful fabric...
navy with very graphic orange print...
but she bought it insanely big...

so i took a tuck pleat at the back by the label and added some gathered elastic near the bust to take in the neckline but keep the volume...

it's an absolute success and i am really pleased with the results!
yay!

i've been doing some stuff lately...
i've got the sewing machine out and i get a little better every day...

been working with cashmere and fur...
just bits and bobs...
will post some stuff eventually...

just a small easy project, but immediately successful...

i have a mini leather bracelet with mini studs which i got sometime in the 80's from a street vendor...
it has always been very special to me because it is almost dainty and the idea of leather in pink was quite charming to me...
however i never wore it because it is pink and nothing else i own is...

finally- i was cleaning my art supplies and found a can of black paint...
i made a swift decision and grabbed the bracelet and just dipped it in the paint...
i let it drip and dry overnight and then i scraped some of the paint off the silver metal studs with a pad...

it is so much better than it ever was and it replaces a black snakeskin bracelet with studs that i lost several years ago...

yattah!!!
