Oh dear god, thank you for letting me find this thread. I'm a junkie when it comes to creating a playlist for each month. I tend to do it as the month progresses so I can look back and figure out how I was feeling and what not. I definitely have some favorite artists that seem to make it on the lists every month and what not but lemme give you the list I'm building for May thus far just so see what everyone thinks:
1. "Cinco De Mayo" - Liz Phair:
Remember Liz Phair before she sucked? Yah I do too. This song isn't necessarily the best ever, but its got a sentimental meaning. My birthday is the 5th of May, so lemme have this as my lead off song. After all, "cinco de mayo, burn out Ohio," says it all for me!
2. "Honestly" - Cartel:
I really have a general (albeit unexplicatory and probably undeserving) soft spot for boys with shaggy hair and guitars. Anyhow these boys from Georgia are actually really great, and I love the lead singer's voice. Plus, its a dangerously catchy song.
3. "Last Time" - Shea Seger:
Possibly one of the best breakup songs for when you just can't get rid of the person. What can I say, other than that my learning curve apparently sucks. Nice to be reminded of it from a song.
4. "Natalie Marie And 1cc" - The Spill Canvas:
A great little number for a friend that had to go on here. Not much more can be said about it.
5. "Ego" - The Sounds:
Say what you will, but I'm a sucker for a punky, synth-based, Swede/Nowegian/Dutch-eqsue band. I love the way this song goes, and the lyrics become pretty damn catchy after a couple times on repeat, promise!
6. "Another For The Darkness" - Gemma Hayes:
There always seems to be some Gemma Hayes song on a playlist for me. There's just something about this girl's voice and simply provocative lyrics that really drill into me. Try this song, "Back Of My Hand," "Two Step," "Nothing Can," and "Hanging Around" if you wanna hear more great stuff!
7. "Hands Open" - Snow Patrol:
Oh god, Snow Patrol is back! With another amazing song, with another ridiculously catch tune. Plus there's a Sufjan Stevens reference in the song that hooked me.
8. "I Hate Everyone" - Get Set Go:
Have a bad day and listen to this song. Please. Besides it always happen to me when all I need is a bloody pack of cigarettes and some old person is bitching about coupons ahead of me. You'll love this song, promise.
9. "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" - Arctic Monkeys:
Had to jump on the bandwagon with this band. I'm just starting to get into them and learn more about them, but right now, I'm definitely very interesting in what I'm hearing. Great sound.
10. "Braille" - Regina Spektor:
I'm saying this ahead of time, DON'T listen to this song alone for long periods of time. I can't explain it, but for some reason it can actually make me cry. Powerful and passionate.
That's all I've got thus far, but then again May is still ten days away, we'll see what else I can come up with by then. I hope you guys get to hear some of this stuff, and hopefully enjoy it as much as I do.
