Oh dear god, thank you for letting me find this thread. I'm a junkie when it comes to creating a playlist for each month. I tend to do it as the month progresses so I can look back and figure out how I was feeling and what not. I definitely have some favorite artists that seem to make it on the lists every month and what not but lemme give you the list I'm building for May thus far just so see what everyone thinks:

1. "Cinco De Mayo" - Liz Phair:
Remember Liz Phair before she sucked? Yah I do too. This song isn't necessarily the best ever, but its got a sentimental meaning. My birthday is the 5th of May, so lemme have this as my lead off song. After all, "cinco de mayo, burn out Ohio," says it all for me!

2. "Honestly" - Cartel:
I really have a general (albeit unexplicatory and probably undeserving) soft spot for boys with shaggy hair and guitars. Anyhow these boys from Georgia are actually really great, and I love the lead singer's voice. Plus, its a dangerously catchy song.

3. "Last Time" - Shea Seger:
Possibly one of the best breakup songs for when you just can't get rid of the person. What can I say, other than that my learning curve apparently sucks. Nice to be reminded of it from a song.

4. "Natalie Marie And 1cc" - The Spill Canvas:
A great little number for a friend that had to go on here. Not much more can be said about it.

5. "Ego" - The Sounds:
Say what you will, but I'm a sucker for a punky, synth-based, Swede/Nowegian/Dutch-eqsue band. I love the way this song goes, and the lyrics become pretty damn catchy after a couple times on repeat, promise!

6. "Another For The Darkness" - Gemma Hayes:
There always seems to be some Gemma Hayes song on a playlist for me. There's just something about this girl's voice and simply provocative lyrics that really drill into me. Try this song, "Back Of My Hand," "Two Step," "Nothing Can," and "Hanging Around" if you wanna hear more great stuff!

7. "Hands Open" - Snow Patrol:
Oh god, Snow Patrol is back! With another amazing song, with another ridiculously catch tune. Plus there's a Sufjan Stevens reference in the song that hooked me.

8. "I Hate Everyone" - Get Set Go:
Have a bad day and listen to this song. Please. Besides it always happen to me when all I need is a bloody pack of cigarettes and some old person is bitching about coupons ahead of me. You'll love this song, promise.

9. "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" - Arctic Monkeys:
Had to jump on the bandwagon with this band. I'm just starting to get into them and learn more about them, but right now, I'm definitely very interesting in what I'm hearing. Great sound.

10. "Braille" - Regina Spektor:
I'm saying this ahead of time, DON'T listen to this song alone for long periods of time. I can't explain it, but for some reason it can actually make me cry. Powerful and passionate.

That's all I've got thus far, but then again May is still ten days away, we'll see what else I can come up with by then. I hope you guys get to hear some of this stuff, and hopefully enjoy it as much as I do.

hey! thanks to the genius idea of youarearockstar and .f (and fff??)... i thought i would get the ball rolling by starting a playlist of the moment thread. post what your ultimate playlist is for the mood/month/day......WHATEVER!

hey, i encouraged him:P

nice thread, pointup, i can't tell what my playlist of the moment is because i'm making a mix for someone:innocent:

Going Nowhere (Digitalism Remix) - Cut Copy
It reflects the uncertainty that I feel right now. My first year of University is over. I question my future.

Nothing but Green Lights - Tom Vek
This song's more positive

Hyperballad (Disco Sync Remix) - Bjork
It's just a great dance remix.

Touch it Remix - Busta Rhymes
It's funny how I thought this was an old song from 8 years ago (damn I'm old) because of the beat, but it's still relevant now. A "tour de force" from like, a million collaborators

Spin Spin Sugar (Armand Van Helden remix) - Sneaker Pimps
Very hypnotic

Random (Original) - Lady Sovereign
This song has so much energy

Missy Elliott - I'm Really Hot
There was a party in my house tow days ago

Sittin Sidewayz - Paul Wall
I  southern rap

Bubba Sparxx - Ms New Booty
I'm ashamed of liking this song

Theme song for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Now that's better.

youarearockstar - braille

fouroclock - lovely first three songs.

ESTELLA, shame on me for not giving you credit.

i started making mine earlier but got distracted..

The Sporting Life - The Decemberists
AMAZING LIVE BAND! I want to see them again.. now!

Bang Bang Rock and Roll - Art Brut

I don't know why I like Art Brut, at all. haha

Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathers - The Blood Brothers
The only blood brothers song that I absolutely LOVE!

Oh Sailor - Fiona Apple
Its a slightly haunting number.

All For Swinging You Around - The New Pornographers

Portions of Foxes - Rilo Kiley
Gots ta' luvvv Jenny Lewis, fo' real!

An Orgy of Critics - Say Anything
There, I said it. I like Say Anything :ninja:

Illegal - Shakira f/ Carlos Santana

I have a HUGE soft spot for Shakira.

Decatur, or, Round of applause for your Stepmother! - Sufjan Stevens

"My stepmom, we did everything to hate her. She took us down to edge of decatur"

My Name is Jonas - Weezer

Because I will never get sick of such a song.

yes, I did compose a playlist for this thread specifically...:meow:

Cinema Strange - Speak, Marauder!
- An underrated band and I don't use the term lightly  I listened so. very. many. times. to most songs from their first album that I waited a bit on their second, for fear of overexposure and whatever side effects might result. But it happened, as it was bound to eventually and/or just how I'd expected; this song is the one I've chosen as my current favorite (and its proper punctuation is an added bonus - !?!! :P)

Wolf Parade - It's a Curse
- This, I think, is the kind of song that's fully unintelligible, but so lovable the whole company starts mumbling along...

Tuxedomoon - No Tears
- Goth-y antics plus new wave(s) and jazzy saxes, and the effect gets scrambled in translation  but I think this song is a noteworthy example of whatever I'm trying for above. Plus it's just as worthy of recommendation on virtually all other grounds. :P

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat
- The lyrics to this song are some of my all-time... well, you know, favourites (I'm guessing my appreciation for them will one day grow completely out of control :D)

Cocteau Twins - The Hollow Men
- This is off their debut album; Wax and wane is probably a catchier song, but there is something about The hollow men which makes me appreciate it more. :ninja: I could say it's hypnotic, but that can be said of anything from the Cocteau Twins ^_^ There's something jarringly emotional about this song, and already I'm walking the fine line between love and cliche

and that's really all...

Quite a relief, though I'd hate exposing whomever did decide that guarantees aren't required, so long as 'you'll love it' :innocent: :P

i was both harboring a road-trip fantasy and trying to fight my current state of exhaustion, when it hit me: what better for a long drive, than a mix meant for keeping one awake at the wheel? (well I'm still without license but, shhh )

anyhow, with that, I bring you Songs to Wake the Living Dead :ninja: :

The Pixies - Vamos
David Bowie - Modern love
Sons and Daughters - Medicine
The Creatures - Standing there
Laibach - Trans-national
Einstürzende Neubauten - Seele brennt
Interpol - Say hello to the angels
Specimen - Ghosts of the past
Nick Cave - Tupelo
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Helter skelter
Sonic Youth - Silver rocket

Say Hello to the Angels is the perfect racing song!
rather than keep me awake, it will drive me through lucid reality into dreams,
or rather the music will only make my lack of sleep make me go insane...

Well god, I ignore coming to this board for a couple days, only to figure out that I apparently started a thread all on my own. Well thank you pointup for overcoming the extreme obsticle, known to many as my procrastination. Glad to see that people are finally catching on to this. It great to see how other people are feeling on a daily/monthly/whatever basis, specifically thru music. Anyhow, I wanted to finish posting what has become my May playlist (in addition to the first post in this thread), and also my "cracked out on adderall and have to have something playing in the background while I spend three nights learning what I should have learned all semester" playlist

11. "Out Here All Night" - Damone:
I absolutely have no idea where I found this song. Maybe mtvU? Its a touch scene for my tastes but right now it seems to be hitting the spot. Great energy to it.

12. "Casimir Pulaski Day" - Sufjan Stevens:
Haunting to say the least, yet surprisingly sentimental without being excessively emotional. I am in love with the verse about 'Tuesday night at the bible study,' for some unbeknownst reason.

13. "Wasted & Ready" - Ben Kweller:
Do I honestly really know much about Ben Kweller? No. No, I most certainly do not. However, I know that this song involves being drunk and therefore it makes Finals Week '06 seem a hell of a lot shorter.

14. "To Your Love" - Fiona Apple:
I said before that there are certain artists who always make it on my playlists, and Fiona is one of them. It came up on shuffle while at the library, and decided it had to be my Fiona song. After all who doesn't love this: "Don't be down when my demeanor tends to disappoint/Its hard enough even trying to be civil to myself."

15. "Phenomena" - The Yeah Yeah Yeahs:
This song. So simple but Karen O just does something with words that is inexplicable to a certain degree. Everything becomes so enchanting and exotic. Plus this song is kind of hot!

16. "Autonomy" - Heartless Bastards:
This is straight rock. I love this sh*t...basically the story of my life right now. If you have the capabilities to download this or purchase it, PLEASE do. "Someday, I'd like to play a part in the life I've waited to start, I'll bet I could live it well, if I take deep breaths and exhale."

17. "Night On Fire" - VHS Or Beta:
What's not to love, honestly? Catchy.

18. "You Look So Fine" - Garbage:
The other artist/band most likely to make an appearence monthly. Shirley Manson, what can I say...haunting song, with some great lyrics. I really believe that Shirley is a completely underrated lyricist.

19. "Come Pick Me Up" - Ryan Adams:
One of my Top 5 most played songs on iTunes, and I figured it would be apropos to put that on here since this is my month. In all reality though, this is an amazing song.

20. "Scratch" - Kendall Payne:
I had no idea where this song came from in my music library, but damn I'm glad I found it. The perfect way to end my playlist.

going to see them tomorrow night :meow:

a day old, but not quite past its sell-by date:
  • magnetic fields – deep sea diving suit. I simply have to listen to them on the computer because I can’t hear the words properly using anything else. Indeed. Hearing aid ordered.
  • chicks on speed – yes I do. Much as I’d love to, I could never play this to anyone for fear I’d spoil their perception of me. :innocent:
  • nick drake – one of these things first. delightful introduction and continues to be soft and sweet.
  • delays – bedroom scene. "lose yourself in touch" ^_^
  • p.j. harvey – down by the water. I saw the video for this earlier. Impossible not to stare… especially when she’s wriggling like a "little fish, big fish"
  • andrew bird – measuring cups. Go to the front of the class and we’ll measure your brain. There’s a line I never heard at school.
  • of montreal – I was watching your eyes. Can't help but wonder if he was trying to think up the words while keeping up with the melody... everyone loves someone out of breath :P
