i wasn´t sure if she fits into this thread or not.in fact i´m still not sure about it.she became famous in france in 1938-39 ,but the main part of her carreer took place in the 40s,50s,60s.yet the fact that the films she made at the beginning of her carreer are still considered being her best made me think that she could fit in this thread.i only remember her conciously in her 30´s films anyway.after i had seen "quai des brumes" with her and jean gabin i found out that she was only 18 when the film was shot and i couldn´t believe it because she seemed so mature in a world-weary kind of way,just as if she had already had a life behind of her and not in front of her.she reminded me a bit of lauren bacall in "to have and have not"...it was hard to find pics of her and even harder dating them.she looked almost the same at the age of 40 years as she did at the age of 20 years.fortuantely some pics on ebay were dated.but none of the pics really shows the mysterious appeal that surrounded her in "quai des brumes".btw,she started a fashion trend too :french barett and trenchcoat
