A Fashion Legend Passes Away

The 70 year old Tunisian-born designer Loris Azzaro died last week
in Paris. Mr. Azzaro was famous for creating sexy, glamorous and
body-skimming gowns that reached their height of popularity in the
70s and 80s. Some of the stars that favored Mr. Azzaro's draped
bustiers, sheer layers and use of sparkling beads and rhinestones
were stars like Marisa Berenson, Raquel Welch, Claudia Cardinale,
Sophia Loren and Isabelle Adjani. His clothes have had a small
revival this year, as red carpet divas like Nicole Kidman and Liz
Hurley have been sporting his vintage styles. But the most
definite sign of a comeback occurred when French Vogue Editor in
Chief Carine Roitfeld wore an Azzaro dress to the Vogue party
during Paris fashion week last October. We advise that you hop
onto Ebay now, before prices shoot through the roof.

Though I was never familiar with his work, it seems very intresting and the sad thing is he died during the time he was going to make a comeback (as Ms. Rotfield stated at the party.) :(

this has not been a good year for celebrities, socialites, or fashion.

I wasn't very familiar with his work, but it's still extremely unfortunate. Here's Carolyn Murphy in Lois Azzaro at the Met Goddess event earlier this year:

Black metallic knit sweater with white pearls and black quartz.

Large image of a 1970s halter gown with gathered neckline, chiffon illusion with crystal bodice, ruched waist and flowing skirt can be found here.
This bias cut lavender dress is a stunning example of his silk jersey dresses. One bare shoulder and one long sleeve add drama. The diagonal seaming of the dress allows it to hug the body, then flare out to a long full skirt. There is a zipper on the left hand side. Purchased in Paris in the 1970's, this sexy and elegant dress is in pristine condition.

vintage Azzaro from 1976. This turquoise jersey gown is stunning. It has a wire jewelry inlay design on the bust designed by David Ruckli. The cuffs also have matching detailing which gives this dress a fruity Moroccan feel.

Does anyone have a pic of Marisa Berenson, Angela Bowie, Jane Birkin or any of those 70's legends wearing the white signature Azzaro dress?? (the one with the jeweled neckline)
