Zandra Rhodes painted dress, c.1979
Painted with Chinese Water Circles (p.215 of The Art of Zandra Rhodes), the dress is signed "Zandra Rhodes" within the print (2nd picture from the bottom). The idea for the print came during the artist's first trip to mainland China (1979), where the stone carvings of water and clouds in the palaces made a deep impression on her.

The dress is fashioned from peachy beige silk chiffon and is lined with matching China silk. The gray and ivory painting is accentuated with faux pearls and glittering rhinestones. It slips over the head and has a small back neckline opening. The elasticized waist is covered with a wide satin sash. I love the pearl accents on the tied hemline.
