Phillip Lim will celebrate his label’s 10-year anniversary next year. The milestone triggered him to revisit his core sartorial values — or, as he put it, “what it is that is essential to the brand” — and evolve them just as his business has. It was a good move: This was one of his strongest collections in some time, centered on pragmatic clothes with charming detail.
Lim incorporated global touches, mainly looking to Bolivia and Peru for inspiration. For example, a simple white jersey T-shirt was adorned with black-and-white crochet ruffles, and shown with a double silk crepe wrap skirt featuring frilled chiffon. Elsewhere, fringe touches, such as on a wool gaberdine apron attached to pencil pants, added to the subtle ethnic vibe of the lineup.
