BFFs Abbey Lee and Riley Keough Join Forces In Vogue Australia
Friendship is trending — female besties have graced the covers of several notable magazines lately from Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss hugging on the cover of American Vogue, to Cara, Suki and Georgia posing together for the Brit edition. The latest dynamic duo to join forces for a Vogue cover is model turned actress Abbey Lee Kershaw and her former roommate and Mad Max Fury Road co-star Riley Keough. The photogenic pair met on set and quickly grew close with Kershaw serving as Keough’s bridesmaid. The power of female friendship may be a timely talking point, but for Vogue Australia’s editor in chief, Edwina McCann Abbey and Riley’s allure extends beyond the fact that they’re buddies.
Abbey Lee has several covers from VA, what makes her one of the magazine's favorite girls?
Abbey Lee is a true chameleon and Vogue Australia has enjoyed a long creative relationship with her. We could think of no one better than Abbey and her best friend Riley Keough for this cover celebrating the much anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road. The girls met while filming the epic and became fast friends- culminating in Abbey serving as Riley’s bridesmaid in her wedding to Australian stuntman Ben Smith-Peterson whom she wed just a week before our cover shoot in February.
Abbey sells well for VOGUE and is very popular with our readers who have followed her career closely. The epic marks Abbey’s first major film role and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate this milestone with her.
Why did you choose to focus on a pair of female friends instead of shooting the girls solo?
We have been planning this issue for the past year- Abbey and Riley were the girls on our minds for the cover from the very start. They have a very special relationship (forged on the Mad Max set) and that came through in the images, shot by Nathaniel Goldberg in New York in February.
